Chapter 8:
My phone buzzed on the desk in my room. I went up from my bed to answer the phone. I was kind of annoyed that someone had to call me right in this moment, when I was searching the internet for different colleges. Alisa. She was the one calling. I guess I'll let it slip this time.
"What do you want?"
"Well, hello to you too"
"Really though, Al. I'm doing important stuff right now"
"I bet you will forget all about important stuff when you hear what I, Al Almighty, have to say"
"Okay, shoot"
"I happen to have two tickets to a concert with a certain band called Coldplay"
"Wait, what?!"
"I ordered these tickets like half a year ago for me and Jake, but he's not feeling well at all today"
"Is it today?!"
"Oh, didn't I say that?"
"Alisa! We need to get ready now! At what time does it start?"
"In aproximately...three hours"
"Your place or mine?"
"According to the state of Jake, I'd say your house. I'm coming in 30"
And with that, the line went dead. And as promised, Alisa turned up exactly 30 minutes after she hung up.
"So, what are we thinking?", was the first thing she said after walking through the door, still panting from riding her bike.
"We, are thinking: what the hell am I going to wear?"
She shrugged it off. "Relax babe, I'll figure it out for you"
She was looking through my wardrobe with an annoyingly big smile on her face. "I'm thinking casual, but still a little dressed up..."
She continued scanning through my clothes.
"...got it. Take this...with these and...these"
She matched a white, short sleeved blouse with a goldy collar together with black disco pants and a pair of black heels. After changing to the clothes of her choice, Alisa was completely satisfied with her masterpiece. And I'm happy to say that I liked it too. I forced her to put on her outfit for tonight, which consisted of a black, glittery top with a pair of white skinny jeans and black heels. I loved how we were dressed as twins. Of course we had to go over the top and make sure that the both of us was wearing red lipstick.
I usually don't wear makeup and if I do, it's only a little. This was a bit too much for my taste, but Alisa insisted so I didn't have much of a choice.
When we arrived to the venue we were a bit late. They hadn't started yet, but we were still late. "So where's our seats?", I shouted to Alisa since we practically couldn't hear each other. "We ain't sittin down, honey", she said in her best american accent. She held my hand tightly and guided me to the very front of the crowd. "Look at your ticket", she said and motioned for me to look at the little brick around my neck. VIP. "Remember when I said that I know Jonny's fiancée?". I nodded. "We're going backstage afterwards". I squealed and hugged the girl I nowadays call my bestfriend tightly.
The venue went dark and different colored spotlights were dancing around. Suddenly four silhouettes could be seen and the intro to the song Politik were playing.
Me and Alisa were having the time of our lives. We sang along to every song they played. Suddenly, something felt wrong. I somehow got the feeling of dejá vù when I looked at the drummer. He looked familar in some strange way. I closed my eyes for a few seconds to think. Will? Was that it? My eyes scanned over the stage for another familiar face. Guy.
I couldnt believe what I saw. The two men that saved my life was now standing in front of me, with thousands of people screaming their names. I felt betrayed in some way. Not that it was Alisa's fault, she couldn't know, but anger started to rise inside of me. My eyes met Guy's. His eyes widened a little and after the end of the song he went to whisper in the singers ear. Chris, the singer, started talking about the next song. "And now we're going to sing a brand new song actually! It's written for a person that happens to be here tonight!", the crowd was going crazy. He continued. "What is the song called, Guy?". He handed the microphone to Guy. "It's called Fix You", and once again the crowd went crazy.
The intro was slow and I could feel that this song was going to be good.
When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverseWhen the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix youHigh up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what youre worthLights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix youTears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And ITears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And ILights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix youGuy would look at me throughout the entire song. He didn't look away once. Tears started to form in my eyes. Alisa noticed that something was up when we held eye contact during the whole song. "We need to leave", I tried to say. "I can't hear anything!", she shouted back. Even after four attempts of trying to leave she told me she couldn't hear me.
During the rest of the concert I kept glancing towards Guy as he strummed on his bass. Sometimes when my eyes wandered towards him I caught him already staring at me.
This was wrong. My whole life felt like a lie.
