Black Magic

The first thing I wanted to do when we got back to the penthouse was changed. I didn't even try to make conversation with Aristotle; I caught my breath after teleporting and rushed to my bedroom. I threw the red dress on the floor and after ten minutes of searching the closet found a pair of half decent pants and a plain white tee. I grabbed a pair of black tennis shoes and headed for the kitchen.

"We need to talk." Aristotle was sitting in the living room, his voice startled me. I wasn't expecting him to make conversation first.

"About?" I asked opening the fridge.

"Come sit down please." He gestured to the couch beside him.

I grabbed an apple from the fridge and sat down beside him.

"Do you want to be Queen?" his question caught me off guard. And I didn't know the answer.

"Do I actually have an option? If I refuse am I allowed home?" I asked, interesting in where this was heading.

"No. you can't go home. You know way too much but if you decided you didn't want to be Queen Maybe we could work something out and keep you in Alabo, in some sort of safe house." He explained

"What for the rest of my life? That's crazy. I'd rather die than live alone in a city filled with monsters." I grunted.

"Then be Queen and rule a city full of monster." He argued back.

"Why are you now asking me if I want to be Queen, before you said I needed to be and now I have a choice?" I was confused.

"You can't be queen as a human Natalia; you would need to become immortal to rule. That is the only way you will get the elders of the twelve clans to follow you. Without all 12 we don't stand a chance."

"Twelve clans?" I asked

"Yes there is an elder for all the clans throughout the world. Alabo is just one kingdom, it is the most important and hidden kingdom but there is other clans out there who would like a different royal as well. When they heard of you they were eager to see you and for once we all had hope at bringing the clans together. But they will not bow down to a human. You need to decide if you're willing to become immortal to rule. I will not make the decision for you; I wouldn't wish this life on anyone."  He hung his head waiting for an answer.

Honestly I didn't know if I wanted to be Queen, the idea was amusing but I knew nothing of this world or how to help it. I wanted to do right by Lily, I wanted to help bring peace and give Aristotle his revenge but I didn't want to stay here forever and if I became immortal that's exactly what would happen.

"I will not turn into a vampire; I will not sell my soul for your cause." My words sounded harsh but it was the truth. I would not become a vampire. They would have to lock me away.

"We need you Nat." he only called me Nat when he needed something.  He knew the effect my name coming from his lips had and my body couldn't deny the attraction I had towards him. He looked like a lost puppy right now, his suit was wrinkled and dark circles where under his eyes like he hadn't slept in days. Did vampires need sleep? I thought. His deep blue eyes were gazing at me and something about his venerability made me wants to reach out and hug him.  He was desperate; I could see it in his eyes. He needed me as much as I wanted him and no matter what my brain was telling me, my heart wanted to please him. For years he had watched his people struggle and now he finally had hope, and here I was destroying his only chance.

"I am sorry; I just can't be a vampire. I want to help you I just don't know how." I told him.

"Be our Queen, I know you can do this. You have royal blood running through your veins and nobody on this earth can do what you can do even if you don't know it yet. I and Lily will be by your side always, we will teach you, train you and you will be a great ruler. You need to believe in yourself the way I believe in you." He leaned over and grabbed my hand, pleading me to accept.
