Percy POV
My dad's conversation at dinner with Arthur was not something I was prepared for.
"So Kaldur is leaving for the surface in a few days, huh?"
" Yes, he's leaving next Tuesday." Arthur replied, taking a bite of whatever we were eating. I almost choked on my food at his words and both grown-ups turned to look at me.
I looked back at them and chewed innocently, wiping my mouth with a napkin (or whatever you call the cloth you clean your mouth at dinner with under water)
"Excuse me." I said, my mouth still full of food. I swallowed loudly.
"Where can I find Kaldur?" I asked, scooting out of my seat.
Arthur hesitated before answering, "In his room. Packing"
"Thanks." I gave a quick nod and a small bowl before hastily leaving the room and practically running to Kaldur's room.
"You're leaving?" I demanded, entering his room as he packed his clothes and weapons into a duffel bag. (I know the modern world. I do go up there sometimes.)
"Hello Perceus, it's nice to see you too." Kaldur replied sarcastically.
"You're leaving?" I repeated, ignoring his attempt to greet me.
"Where did you hear that?" He asked, still packing.
"Arthur mentioned it at dinner."
"Oh. Anything else?"
"No, what else is there to know?"
"Well, my king wants me to go to the watchtower with him. He told me that I might be welcomed into the league along with the other sidekicks." He said, grinning as he packed his sword in.
"That's great. Why didn't you tell me?"
"I was planning to tell you after dinner, but I guess now's as good a time as any." He sighed and sat down.
"When will you be back?" I asked, sitting next to him on the bed.
"A couple of weeks at most. Why? You gonna miss me?" He joked.
I hit his shoulder playfully. I was going to miss him, but that didn't mean that I had to admit it.
He was the only friend I ever had.
Except for fish. Especially that one catfish called Johnny.
He was awesome, but he died, so...
"Well, you are my best friend, so... yeah, I think so," I rubbed the back of my neck.
He chuckled, "If it makes you feel any better, know that I am going to miss you too." He smiled kindly as he out the last of his stuff in the duffel bag.
"Aww, you make e tear up, Kaldur. You are so gentle and kind and-" I made fake googly eyes and batted my eyelashes at him.
"Stop it. I'm serious. It will be hard not having you by my side. Come visit me on the surface every now and then. We will probably be by the coast. Or I can come to the shore and meet you there. Then we can catch up."
"I'm going to visit my mom's candy store next weekend. Maybe you can drop by, but, knowing my mom, she will want to spend every second with me and won't let me go out. Luckily, I will be staying with her next year so-" I cut myself off when I saw Kaldur's sad face.
"Dude, no need to get upset. When I live with her, she will let me go to the beach everyday to visit you. I might even bring you some blue candy. " I tried to cheer him up. It didn't seem to work.
"You don't need to. My king told me I might be welcomed into the league someday soon, so I will definitely be on the surface for quite some time."
"Problem solved."
"Probably not." He shrugged.
"Yeah, probably not." I agreed.
The next Tuesday, Kaldur'ahm left for the surface. He seemed excited, but then he was gone. He dissappeared into the crowd on the shore.
Dad put a hand on my shoulder. "You alright, son?"
"Yeah, I guess." I said, sadly.
"Well, I guess now that you have nothing to do, you can help me with battle strategies."
I stopped, disgusted.
Dad saw my face and chuckled, "I'm messing with you."
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Kaldur'ahm PovI looked at my king next to me. I was probably grinning like a fool, because he asked, "Are you excited?"
"Yes, sire, very much. I cannot wait until we get there. Today is the day."
"You and Perceus seem to have developed quite a friendship. He won't take it well if something happened that made you stay."
I looked at him, astonished.
"Forgive me for asking this, my king, but what would make me want to stay up here on the hot, dry surface?"
"Maybe a team you care about?" He said.
"Maybe, but that wouldn't change anything. Poseidonis is still my home and Perceus still has my deep regards. Besides, he is coming to live on the surface next year when he turns seventeen. "
"Is that still going to happen?"he asked.
"As far as Perceus is concerned, yes."
"Hmm." Was all he said. Why would my king be acting like this? He's always liked Percy a fair deal.
We arrived at the hall of heroes. Superman was giving a speech, cameras were rolling, news reporters were shouting questions.
Soon Batman and robin and The Green arrow and Speedy stood behind us, Robin standing straight with pride and Speedy looking annoyed.
The last pair to arrive, was Flash and Kid Flash.
And then we went inside.
