I Am Not Your Sidekick

I refuse to be cold

We both sneaked into the hallway and down the stairs into the open warehouse.

It seemed to be  deserted. Annabeth and I continued sneaking to the door when a loud, booming voice said, "Leaving so soon?"

It was the Joker, of course.  He stood on a stage, that I don't believe was there before. Stage lights flickered on and I heard Annwbeth squeal in terror as hundreds of tiny spiders scattered out from under the stage and straight toward us.

"Oh come on, you two party poopers! The fun was just beginning!" Joker cackled as we bagin running in the direction of the door.

"Percy, I need you to flood the place right now." Annabeth whisper yelled.

"The water pressure will crush you. You don't know how fast it's going to come." I tried to reason.

"Then you protect me from it. I'm sure you can do that. But I need you to flood the place right now." She urged.

I gave her one last look before I felt the familiar tug in my gut and all the water pipes exploded and the water level raised to our ankles within twenty seconds.

Annabeth gave me a look that made me feel stupid.

"I need you to be a little faster than that. More water. Do your absolute worst." She said urgently.

The tug in my gut spread and more cracks appeared in the pipes and more volumes of water flooded the warehouse rapidly. Within mere seconds, the water was already by our necks and soon we couldn't touch the ground anymore.

Percfect.

I started causing waves to clear all the junk that was floating in the water and a whirlpool to swallow Joker and formed a bubble around him so that i wouldn't have to live with a death on my hands. I grabbed Annabeth's hand so that she didn't go down with him.

The water had raised all the way tothe ceiling of the first floor of the warehouse and we couldn't take any more breaths. I quickly formed a bubble around Annabeth so that she could take a few breaths before we went to the door that was still closed even though It should've flown open by now.

I rook Annabeth's hand again and dragged her down with me to the door and started kicking the door until it burst open.

We tumbled out with tons of water coming out with us.

We couldn't actually stand up before all the water was out, because Everytime we tried, the water dragged us down to the ground again.

As soon as it stopped, I looked around at saw Joker lying on the ground, probably unconcious. Annabeth and I both laughed.

I was already dry,  but Annabeth was soaked from head to toe.

"Gimme your hoodie." She said with a straight face when we were done laughing.

"Why?" I asked stupidly.

"I refuse to be cold, Seaweed brain, now give me your hoodie. " she put her hand out expectantly.

I gave her my dark blue hoodie and she pulled it over her head and held the cap up and snuggled into it and closed her eyes for a moment,  enjoying the warmth that shouldn't have been there.

I smiled at her and together, we walked to the nearest fast food restaurant and got some coffee.

"Thanks, by the way." She finally said after a long period of silence.

"For what?" I asked.

"Making me an airbuble to breathe in and helping me get out. I don't know what would've happened to me if I stayed there any longer. I tried to escape a few times. Almost succeeded,  but I was caught by that clown's minions."

"It's no problem. Honestly, the only reason I was actually there with Joker, was because he told me about you. " I stood up as I finished my coffee. "Oh, and, uh, by the way, you can keep the hoodie. Consider it an apology for getting you in there in the first place." I was planning on just shaking her hand and then walking out, but she stood up too, grabbed my hand and pulled me....

Into a kiss.

She let go just as quickly, linking her hands into a knot in front of her and blushed, saying, "There's no need for an apology, seaweed brain. I consider this hoodie as something you left with me and we will have to see each other again if you want it back." She smiled slightly.

I gave her a lopsided, goofy grin.

"I'll see you around, Seaweed Brain."

She chuckled softly and walked out, looking back only once.
