And they beat the crap out of me.
I know, I know. Why didn't I use the water molecules in the air to get out of there?
Because I was laying in an alleyway with a broken jaw and three thugs beating me.
I wasn't exactly what you would call 'focussed' and 'calm.'
Do you know how hard it is to vapour travel when you are not focussed and calm? On the chart, it falls under the heading of 'impossible.'
Anyway, I was just taking my beating, thinking that I would probably die tonight just like the other bunch of guys these thugs killed, but then it happened.
A miracle came.
The miracle, being a boy, no older than thirteen, with black hair, a domino mask and red and green suit and tights with a black and yellow cape. There was a symbol on his chest. A green 'R' with a circle around it.
I watched as he beat those thugs and they were sent scampering. It was almost Humiliating.
I didn't look up when he came to give me a hand. Don't think I didn't recocnise him. He was one of Kaldur's teammates. What did he call himself?
Robin
My face felt swollen and numb. I traced a cut down the side of my face and my right eye was completely swollen.
"Are you okay?" He asked, his voice completely calm. I pushed his hand away, stood up and just said, "I'm fine."
I began walking, but this kid was pretty persistent.
He followed me.
"You took quite a beating. Maybe I could get you some help with that. I know this man-" he jabbered.
"Look kid, I am fine. I can heal myself. You can go back to your team or whatever." I snapped. Robin didn't seem fazed though. He just gave me a weird look of recognition.
"Aren't you that one friend of Kaldur? Perry?" He asked.
"It's Percy, and I am not his friend anymore." I said and kept on walking.
"You know, he was pretty upset when he came back. He trashed his room." He said. I laughed dryly.
"He deserved it."
"Well, I can tell that you are still upset about it. Those drain pipes don't just explode, you know." He shrugged.
"Look, dude, I have no desire to go back to Kaldur and forgive and forget at the moment. Don't try to convince with pep talk." I growled. Robin flinched.
"Oh, uh...no. I'm not trying to." My expression softened.
"What are you doing here, then? Why would you save me of all people, especially at a time like this?"
"I'm on patrol. I go around the city every night and beat up bad guys. It's actually very fun." He said.
"Ha! Yeah, I believe you. " I said sarcastically. I felt light headed and tired and my head throbbed where the cut was leading down from my forehead to the bottom of my cheek.
Robin must've seen me go pale, because he said, " dude, seriously. You need to get help."
I waved him off. "No thanks. I'm fine." I my hand instinctively went to my pocket in the hoodie. My fingers wrapped around a small piece of crust.
Ambrosia.
I grinned.
I don't know where it came from, but I was happy that it was there.
I took it out and ate it. The ambrosia tasted like my mom's blue chocolate chip cookies.
My head immediately felt better and my chin stopped bleeding.
Finally.
Robin's eyes widened. "Dude, did you seriously just heal yourself by eating something?"
I laughed. "Ambrosia. It's what demigods eat to heal themselves when they are hurt."
His expression hardened. "Batman would want to know about you. I don't want to force you into anything, but I want to ask you- as a friend- if you can accompany me."
I shook my head. "Robin, we are many things, but we are not friends."
"Fine, then because you owe me for saving your butt back there. You owe me a favour. " he crossed his arms with a smug look on his face.
Oh, how I wanted to strangle this kid. I wanted to strangle him so bad!
But I didn't. Instead, I just sighed and said, "fine."
I followed him. On the walk back, he jumped around the rooftops and flipped over openings between buildings like some acrobat while I was gently walking down the street, showing my defeat.
"Show off. " I muttered as I looked up again while he did a flip.
His cackle echoed through the air.
" hey, it's bad enough for my ego that I was saved by a kid! You don't need to show off!" I shouted up at him.
He laughed again, clearly enjoying his victory.
I sighed.
Finally, we arrived at a building. It was big, but not big enough to need an elevator.
From the top of the building, a huge spotlight was was shining into the night, but a silhouette of a bat was in the middle of it.
Hmm, that's one way to get someone's attention. Otherwise you could just give that person a call. But whatever.
I followed robin to the side of the building. Although the door was on the way other side of the building.
Robin pressed his finger in his ear and said, " batman, I've got somebody here you might want to meet."
After a short moment, he said, "Percy Jackson. A friend of Kaldur. I saved his but and now he owes me."
"Nah, but he's got some abilities the league might want to know about." He said after another short moment.
"I'm already here."
