It's been about a year since Hayley Mitchell came back from vacationing with her family in Australia.  She met a really cute guy there, but she knew that she would never see him again.  She texted her best friends and asked them to come over to her house for the night.  Her parents were out with friends and she was an only child, so she didn't know what else to do.  They all came over about 15 minutes later.   They all just relaxed in her living room.  They talked about the next new trend in fashion.  Melanie started the conversation. Then she started talking about the latest gossip in school.  Hayley couldn't stand another second of Melanie talking, so she interrupted her.

"Oh my God! You will not shut up, will you?  We don't care about fashion or gossip, and we certainly don't wanna hear you constantly talking about it!" she screamed.  Melanie just laughed about it.

"Okay fine! So do you have anything else that you want to talk about?"

"Actually, yes I do.  Well, first of all, I haven't been here all year, so I wanna hear all about what's been happening here lately.  I also wanna talk about what everyone is going to be doing over winter break," she said.  She didn't care how Melanie felt about all of this.  She was just so happy to get it all out.  So they went right ahead and talked about the stuff that Hayley wanted to talk about.

"Well, lots of stuff happened in the past year," said Nicole.

"Yeah, like, do you remember that one girl from school that was such a dork back then?  Well, she's almost as popular as Melanie now!" said Megan.

"And do you remember that one really cute guy in school who was the captain of the football team and every single girl in the school wanted to date him?  Yeah, well, he moved away, sadly." said Brooke.

"And a lot more stuff happened while you were gone, but you're just gonna have to catch up on everything in school and over winter break.  And we'll all be here over winter break!" she smiled.

When she got to school the next morning, she felt super tired and not in the mood for Melanie at all.  She tried her best to avoid Melanie that day.  When they got to lunch, she was forced to sit with Melanie, so she was okay with it because the other girls would be there, too.  They stared at each other for a solid minute.

"Okay!" Megan broke the silence.

"So what happened to that hot football guy, anyways?" she asked.

"I heard that he moved to like Hawaii or something." said Brooke.

"I don't even know what happened to him." said Nicole.

Hayley really liked him in a serious way, so she didn't like to talk about him anymore.

"Well, he really was super hot.  What was his name again?" Melanie asked.

"I think it was Tyler." said Brooke.  She was always on Melanie's side.

Hayley sprung up out of her seat, tossed the food out, and put her tray away.  When she got back to the table, they were still talking about him.  The bell rang about a minute later, and she ran out of there immediately.  She felt so embarrassed because Melanie was the only other person who knew about her crush, and she knew that she was just going to make her feel even worse about herself.

When she got to Science 2 periods later, she noticed something strange.  Someone's books were next to her.  Tyler had always been her lab partner, so ever since he left, she has been working all alone.  She couldn't help but look through their stuff to see whose it was.  There was a chemistry book, a chemistry folder, a notebook with drawings in it, and a bag with a phone and a wallet sticking out of it.  The screensaver on the phone was of a popular band.  She looked up at the door to make sure no one was coming in or looking at her.  She opened the wallet really quickly and peeked in to see the ID.  OMG!! It was Tyler!! She felt terrified and confused at the same time.  She knew that he left for good.  He told everyone that he would never come back.  Right when the bell rang, she saw him walk into the classroom and take a seat next to her.  She stared at him as if he were a wild animal.  He looked at her.  "Hey!" he said, smiling.

"Hey! Um... Where have you been?" she asked him.

"Away.  On vacation." he said to her.  He seemed so calm about it.

"On vacation?  The whole entire school thought that you left for good!" she exclaimed.

"Well, I'm back now.  Aren't you happy to see me?" he asked her.

"Yes!  Of course I am!  I honestly couldn't be happier!" she smiled.  She hoped that he didn't figure out her secret from that.

"Great!" he exclaimed.   "Do you want to go out for coffee with me tomorrow morning? We have no school.  It's because of something that has to do with the teachers.  I don't know."

"Sure!  I'd love to!" she was blushing.

The next morning, she sprung up out of bed and picked out something really cute to wear.  She wore a floral dress with stockings, a denim jacket, and combat boots.  She thought that this was the perfect outfit for a morning coffee date with her crush.

When she got there, he was already sitting at a table, with 2 coffees.  She walked over there slowly and dramatically.  "Hey!" he said.

"Hey!" she sat down right across from him.

"So how have you been?"

"Pretty good!  Except for still being friends with Melanie.  She hasn't been very nice to me lately.  To any of us, for that matter."

"So then why are you girls still friends with her?"

"She has her good moments.  Like how she can make you feel really special and wanted.  That's how we all feel about her.  She can be a real witch  sometimes, but we all still love her no matter what.  And we are all super close because of her. Before I became friends with her, I had no one.  Just my parents, but only when they had their good days."

He scooched around to her and gave her the best hug that anyone could ever ask for.

"But now, I feel even more loved than I ever have before with the girls."

He leaned in to kiss her, but then her phone buzzed. They both giggled a little bit.  She leaned back to check her phone.  It was from Nicole:

SOS

"I'm so sorry, but I really have to go.  Nicole really needs me right now." she said to him.  They both got up.

"Okay, well, can I at least walk you out?"

"Yes.  Of course you can." She said.

When they got to her car, they stared at each other for about 2 minutes.  Just then, he leaned into her, and kissed her.  She smiled and got in her car.

"Tomorrow?" she asked him.

"Tomorrow." he said.
