1 week later.

Viola

It's been a week since my mother dropped the news on me.

I haven't been able to eat or sleep properly. I felt like a ghost like I became vacant.

"Cmon viola you need to eat something" said placing a plate infront of me.

"Mr.henley want a gal with meat on her bones and you've become so skinny." She added on. "Eat up" this time her voice changed.

She was tired of force feeding me and she wanted to make sure Henley got his 3 chickens worth of a bride.

I looked at the food and played around with the grits. I placed the food in my mouth and began to chow down.

She knew if daddy was here he wouldn't have allowed this transaction to transpire.

She has always been greedy and that's why me and daddy got along aloe better. Way before he left us for a job opportunity.

I finished my food and walked out to the lake. I walked into the little meadow to find mercy and her sister Colleen.

I was sat down besides her and she already began to run her mouth. But I had no clue what she was even talking about because I was so deep in thought.

"Viola! hellllooooo???" I heard her yelling while waving her hand In front of my face.

"Yeah what?" I asked annoyed as if she couldn't tell I was annoyed already.

"I saiddddd are you going to the church ball?" She said looking down playing with the sticks.

She knew for a fact that I couldn't cause of the fact I'm getting "married".

All I kept thinking about was escape plans but none of them made any sense.

My dreams is to be with Willie.

I twirled my curls in my fingers as I looked at the water.

"No." I said dryly hoping she got the point .

I cannot marry him! I need to to leave quickly or run away.

"Do you know where the boys are?" I asked without making eye contact. I know she would know cause the fact she's more into boys than anything.

Open springs areas are segregated between boys & girls so if boys go hang some where it's most likely all of them.

"Yes, I believe they are in the back yard of teddy...and yes William is there" she added on.

I got up and began walking the dirt road leading up to Teddy's home.

As I grew closer I heard laughter and squeals as I waked through the small section of trees.

Just the person I was looking for he had his back towards the woods and he had his hands stuffed in his pocket.

"William..." I said lowly. No reaction. I tapped his tall broad shoulders. He jumped a little and turned around with a smile.

Before I could say anything he spoke first. "came to answer on my proposal."

He said grinning hard. I could only turn away in a bashful nature.

"Something like that...but why are you such in a hurry to know though?" I asked knitting my brows together.

"because I'm leaving." he said
nonchalantly coming closer to me leaving the crowd behind him.

"Where? why? when? how?" questions started flooding out my mouth as tears began to clog my eyes. Not cause he's leaving but because he was my everything or atleast in my head he was.

He looked at me with sorrow in his eyes. "that's why I wanted you to say yes so that I'll have something to come back to." He said so focused.

"really? Just something to come back to while your out to where ever you are." I began getting angry thinking that he had actually liked me.

"No it's not like that...its cause I heard your getting married.." he said putting his head low.

I couldn't resist as tears began to slid down my face.

"Please tell me you don't want to" he could tell that I wasn't happy.

"No" I said with my voice cracking.

He pulled back the grabbed my face into his large hands, putting his forehead to mine while wiping my tears.

I was full of all types of emotions. I really didn't know what to do.

"Look I want you to come with me...we will marry find a nice home and make a family." He said rambling on and on.

"Willie!" a boy yelled in the back. he put his hand up stating to give him a minute.

"I don't know" I said honestly. How was I gonna just up and leave like that?

"Look two days from now I'll make my turn out of here, I'll stop by where ever your staying and wait by the side of the house until dawn. If you don't come out ill know why,but if you're down just be ready"

"How will you know where I'll be staying?" knowing I'm marrying soon and I will be leaving my mothers house.

"Trust me I'll know." he said walking back to his friends.
