'Well, I have to go to summer camp...' I moan over the fence.
'What!?' My friend, Abby says, pegging a t shirt onto the clothes line, her eyes widened.
'I know, mums making me go. '
'Why?' She says, still surprised.
I sigh, then sit down up against a tree in my backyard.
'Shes got a new boyfriend, and to be honest, I don't want to be here during that anyway...'
'Oh, that guy Clarke who was there yesterday?' She asks.
I nod, and checks phone for the time.
'I have to go to lunch with dad, bye!' I say, getting up off my feet and walking towards my back door.
She yells bye back, as I shut the door behind me.
1 week later
The bus pulled in, and I watched the people pour out of the doors. There were so many, and this was my first time in the city. I got up and walked onto the bus, scanning my card. I find my self a seat in the middle and pull out a book.
[the fault in our stars, john green]
I read for what seemed like hours, when the bus pulled to a stop. I put away my book, and stood up. As I walked off of the bus, I noticed a few people around my age getting off as well.
'Hi, I'm Shannon!' A brunette girl says to me, as I get off the bus.
'Uh... Hi! Sorry!' I giggle.
I look around to see a desert of dust. Crap.
'I know what you're thinking...' She says.
'What?' I laugh.
'The place, it's crap' she says.
'Well, yeah kind of' I laugh again.
'Well, it is, so yeah' she giggles.
'Youre going to have to get used to it. '
We walked into our dorm, which was kind of like a log cabin. I dumped my bags on a bottom bunker and sat on the plastic cover, staring at the floor.
I couldn't help to think that I was completely forgotten by my mum. She'd always ditch me for men, or her friends, who weren't exactly friends, they were 49 year old partiers, just like her.
It was a girls' camp, but there was another boys camp that was next to us, but we only really eat with them and do night activities.
No one from my cabin was here yet, so I just pulled out my phone and checked my twitter.
'OH MY GOD!' I yell, reading one of my messages.
The door suddenly bursts open, but I don't notice due to my twitter message.
'I GOT RETWEETED' I yell, pumping my fist in the air.
'By who?' The girl asks.
'TYLER OAKLEY! I GOT RETWEETED BY TYLER FUCKING OAKLEY!' I yell.
'Oh my god, Brooke' she giggles.
I look up to see that familiar face, for the first time in ages.
'Abby!' I cry, running up to give her a hug.
'What are you doing here?' I ask, still being held by her arms.
'I got myself signed up, that's what besties are for right?' She laughs.
