Zoe watched as Inigo breathed in and hovered his mouth over her neck. Somehow she didn’t feel afraid. If her life was going to end, at least she would be with him. “Inigo.” She whispered and felt him pause. “I know what you want to do. Just think about what will happen afterwards.” She put her arms around his neck, touching his dark hair, running her fingers through his locks. “Okay.”
“I cannot resist. You smell so wonderful and you taste so nice.” He growled and his eyes bashed against her skin as his tongue tickled the side of her neck. She breathed out in quick bursts as she tried to control her heart. If he bit her it couldn’t be so bad, could it?
“I trust you.” She repeated and closed her eyes, waiting for the prick in her neck and the pain when his fangs slid into her skin and drank from her veins.
The bell went and Inigo froze. His hands balled up into fists and he growled into her neck. “Sebastian. I did not close my thoughts up.” His eyes widened suddenly and he pulled away. He stared at her, then at his hands, then her neck. “No. No I did not. I could not have. I was so in control! How could I? Did I? How did I…?” He gripped his hair and yanked at it. “No, no, no, no. I did not just nearly do that.” He forced her neck to the side to inspect it and then immediately stepped back again. He snarled at himself and Zoe heard the door opening, then shouting. He stared at her, a whisper escaping his mouth, his features turning to shock. “You were going to let me.”
“I…” She began, but the kitchen door crashed down and Sebastian stood there, his eyes dark and angry. He glared at Inigo then stared at Zoe, his eyes wide.
“Zoe.” He strode towards her and held her at arms-length. He stared into her eyes as Inigo clutched the side and Harry and Rosalie came in. Sebastian turned to look at them.
“Everything alright?” Rosalie asked wearily.
Inigo straightened up and plastered on a smile. “Everything is fine, Rosalie. Sebastian, Zoe and I just need to talk for a moment okay?” He bustled them out of the room, Rosalie giggling like mad. He quickly shut the door before moving back to the side and leaning over the sink, going paler than possible. He looked as if he was about to faint. His fingers twitched and tightened and Zoe thought she heard a crack of the table surface touching his hands.
Sebastian took Zoe’s head in his hands, tilting it in every direction possible. Zoe watched him, confused as he moved to her eyes, pulling them down and looking down into her pupils. Then he lifted up her hands and turned them over in his, searching her wrists.
“Sebastian I’m fine. Nothing happened.” Zoe said.
“It nearly did.” He growled and pulled her into a tight hug. “Why? Inigo how could you do this at a dinner with her family in the next room?!” He hissed.
“I - I do not know…what came over me. Zoe I am so sorry.” He looked mortified. His hands shook and he ran them through his hair, causing his head to shake a bit with the pressure against his scalp.
“It’s okay.”
“No it’s not okay, Zoe! He was about to kill you!” Sebastian snarled and hugged her tighter.
“Stop thinking for one minute, Sebastian please! I already feel terrible.” Inigo looked as if he was about to throw up.
“I’ll think what I like. Inigo, I thought you were stronger than this. Jesus, you seemed to be better than me. You hung out with her all the time! Why now? Why couldn’t it have been in the beginning, eh?” He snuggled more into Zoe and she didn’t have the strength to push away.
“Sebastian…”
“…It would have been easier at the beginning. No one would have known them. Piece of cake. But in the middle of a dinner? That’s just…”
