Sebastian was beaming when they came out of Biology, Inigo not so much. He looked sad that his girlfriend was going to spend the afternoon with a boy who liked her and a boy she used to like. It wasn’t surprising really. She pulled Inigo to the side and licked his cheek, cuddling him. He purred and seemed a lot better after that. Sebastian was grinning from cheek to cheek when he saw her. He squeezed her tightly around the middle and again, she didn’t want him to let go...which was definitely not good.
“Do you want to set off now or do you want to wander about for a minute or two?”
“We can’t stand about. It’ll take ages to get there. The quicker the better.” She strode as quickly as she could out of the school. They were still the last people to leave. He shrugged as if it made no difference to him.
“Alright. Give me your hand then.”
“What?” Surely she didn’t have to hold his hand in order to get there? It would make her feel even more guilty about Inigo. He sighed and grabbed her hand before she could complain, suddenly lifting her onto his back. “What?! Sebastian what are you-”
“Just hold on, okay? Travel sickness?”
“No but…”
He took off. The way Inigo had raced Harry, Sebastian ran the same but because it was a longer distance, it seemed so much faster. It didn’t take as long as she thought. Already they were in the correct town, racing towards the park. How Sebastian knew where she had lived, she had no idea, but decided not to ask in case it distracted him, for she didn’t want to fall off him at this speed.
Though she doubted that Sebastian would let her come to any harm, the human instinct to grip onto his back like a frightened monkey was very strong. Her hair whipped against her neck and down her arms as the wind pulled at her sides, failing to drag her backwards. The trees and traffic, buildings and people, zapped past a second before she realized what they were. Zoe couldn’t even see where she was and was having a hard time keeping her eyes open. She shut them tightly and pressed her head against his neck, feeling his cool marble skin against her own, creating goose-bumps which sprouted down her arms and legs.
They reached the park in no time at all and she got off his back, turning pink. Not many people were around yet because they’d all just about come out of school. Luckily, it was cloudy so Sebastian didn’t have to hide. He smiled and laughed at her expression. “It doesn’t take long to travel. That’s why we go as far as possible at night. Come on. We can surprise them. What do they look like?”
Zoe and Sebastian walked into the park. Almost immediately, he sniffed the air and closed his eyes. It must have smelt so much like humans, as so many came to the park each day, especially after school. She wondered whether he would be able to cope with the whole group. They had trouble just coping with her in a town of vampires so she couldn't imagine how hard it would be in a town of humans.
There was no one at the swings yet, just like she thought, now that she had realised how fast vampires were. Sebastian sat down on one and indicated the one next to him. Zoe sat and looked around the park. Would she recognise them? Would he still be gorgeous?
“Nervous?” He asked as he swung gently on the swing. He looked so relaxed.
She was messing with her hands and fingers as she answered. “I just haven’t seen him in a while.”
“You liked him?” He grinned and turned on the swing to face her. She nodded and went red.
“He didn’t know.”
“So do you think he’ll live up to your expectations now?”
“I have no idea.” She admitted honestly. It wasn't as if she'd be judging him for that kind of reason anyway. Zoe watched as Sebastian studied her, a smile still on his face, swinging slowly backwards and forwards, his feet on the floor propelling the forward movement.
