It was now the next day and I was perched on a stool in my science class with my head in my hands, mentally saying every curse word that sprung to my very sore mind. Nate and I won the beer pong game last night which resulted in a lot of very strong alcoholic celebratory drinks with a bunch of new people I'd met and got to know. I'd be lying if I said I remembered any of their names. In fact, I don't remember much of last night after the beer pong. All I know is that I have a piercing headache right now and I shouldn't of had as much to drink as I did.
I didn't know anybody in my science class so I chose to sit on a two seat bench at the back on my own. However, it did appear that almost every other student in my class was hungover too. My teacher began talking about organs or something, I wasn't really listening. Instead, I was trying not to throw up.
"How's your head?" A voice I immediately recognised as Nate's came from behind me, I felt him sit down on the stool next to me.
"I feel like there's one thousand people are hammering my brain." I moaned, rubbing my temples.
"Wow, dramatic much?" He chuckled.
"Shut up," I said to him, turning around to slap him.It was the first time I actually looked at him since he's been here. His hair was messy and his eyes were bloodshot with dark bags underneath. He also wasn't dressed as well as he was the night before. Instead, he was wearing a baggy, white t-shirt and baggy joggers.
"You look like shit." I said, he smirked.
"You don't look that much better yourself, love." He dismissed, nudging me. He's not wrong, I probably look the same as him.
It was then that I realised neither of us had been paying attention to the teacher. She was stood in front of our bench holding a big, white bucket in her hands. She shoved her hand, which was covered in blue latex gloves, into the bucket and pulled out something small, squishy and covered in blood. Our teacher mumbled something about a sheep heart. She dropped the heart on the desk in front of us along with two knives. I began to gag at the smell and appearance, not the best thing to look at when you have a horrible hangover. I looked at Nate, he too looked ill.
"Let's get out of here!" Nate whispered. Before I had a chance to question him he had already grabbed both our bags in one hand and my hand in the other. The next thing I knew, I was running out the science classroom, hand in hand with Nate Pearce.
You know when you do something and immediately regret it? Yeah, that's how I feel right now as I sit in the passenger seat of Nate's car.
In the heat of the moment, I found it funny. Our teacher chased us down the corridor for a while, shouting and screaming for us to come back. But we didn't, we kept running hand-in-hand until we came out of the school and into the car park until we reached Nate's car.
"What are you thinking about?" Nate asked me, taking my attention away from my regrets and onto him.
"I shouldn't have left." I sighed.
"Oh look, the inner good girl is coming out." Nate smirked, I rolled my eyes.
"It's my second day ever! Full on running from my science teacher probably didn't make the best impression and I'm fucked if my mum finds out like seriously I'm going to be murdered," I rambled. Nate raised an amused eyebrow which caused me to stop talking and frown. "What's funny?"
"How much you're overthinking this. You would've ended up leaving that class anyway." He smirked."No I wouldn't have." I defended myself.
"You're telling me you would've been able to handle cutting open that sheep heart?" Just the thought of it made me gag. "I think that proves my point."
"Where are we going anyway?" I asked him, trying desperately to get the image of the sheep heart out of my head.
"For breakfast." He stated, as though it was obvious.
"I don't think I'll be able to handle food anytime soon." I said, rolling down my window as another wave of sickness came over me.
"It's a well-known fact that eating food cures a hangover, so, you're coming with me to get breakfast."
"I'd rather just go home and sleep it off."
"Tough shit. You're part of our friendship group now so you have to join all group outings whether you like it or not. The rules? Remember?"
"What the hell are you talking about, Nate? For starters, this isn't even a group outing, incase you haven't noticed only me and you are in this car. Secondly, what rules?" I questioned him, completely confused. Nate sighed.
"We're going to meet the others at a breakfast place we like and Natalie made rules for all of us to follow, one of them being to attend all outings." He explained, I nodded in understanding.
"Okay I have another question, did all the others run away from their teachers too?" I asked.
"No, they just didn't go into school. Natalie felt awful when she realised that you didn't know about our tradition of skipping school after Campfire Night. So, I offered to go and get you."
I wanted to ask so badly why he offered to get me out of everyone but I decided that I'd already asked him too many questions and he was clearly getting annoyed at having to explain everything.
We didn't say anything to each other for the rest of the journey and shortly after, we arrived at a small diner. When we walked inside I immediately appreciated the aesthetic. It was your typical 1950s diner with round, red tables and chairs dotted around a large curved bar in the middle. The walls were covered in black and white portraits of 1950 celebrities and there was a beautiful, old jukebox off to one side that was playing some great music. I couldn't help but take my camera out and snap a few photos of the place.Once I was finished, I realised that Nate was no longer by my side and I had no idea where he went. Scanning the diner, I eventually spotted Nate with the rest of the group at a large, round table in the middle. I was greeted with warm smiles as I sat down at the table in between Nate and Blaine. A full english was already on a plate in front of me and as I reluctantly took a bite I felt better. As much as I hated to admit it, Nate was right, food does cure a hangover.
Hours had past and we were still sitting in the same spot. We decided it would be best to stay at the diner until the school day would've been over so when we got home our parents, or in my case aunt, wouldn't suspect anything. Currently, we were discussing the best pizza topping.
"I just like a cheese pizza, you can't go wrong with that. Can you?" I said, sharing my thoughts.
"That's so boring!" Nate scoffed.
"No it isn't! Guys, back me up here." I argued, hoping the others would side with me on this one.
"I wouldn't say it's boring, just pretty basic. You should be more unique like me!" Natalie decided after a moment's thought.
"Nat, strawberry and chicken pizza is not unique it's just straight up weird," Ethan teased her. "And as for cheese pizza, I like it too."
"Thank you, Ethan!" I smiled, he replied with a wink. Nate rolled his eyes."Ethan, stop arse kissing Thea." He scoffed.
"I think it's boring!" Amy spoke up. Honestly, this is like the most she's said all day. I'd forgotten she was even here.
"Thank you, Amy." Nate replied, mocking my reply to Ethan. He put his arm around Amy and pulled her into a hug. She giggled in response her face lit up in happiness. Now it was my turn to roll my eyes. Nate's such a player, Amy is putty in his hands. I would never fall for his tricks that easily.
"Hey, Nate! Haven't you slept with that girl before?" Ethan chuckled.I followed his gaze to a tall, skinny girl sitting down at a table far away from us. Her hair was slicked back in a long, brown ponytail and she was wearing tight, gym clothes that showed off her perfect figure. She was very pretty actually and for some reason made me extremely self conscious. Nate also looked but only for a brief second.
"Shit!" He whispered under his breath.
"So, how many girls have you slept with, Nate?" I questioned him.
"Enough." He smirked at me. I scoffed in disgust, dickhead Nate is back everyone!
"And how many of those girls did you pick up in the street? Did you even know their names?" I mumbled just so that Nate can hear. He ignored me and changed the subject.
"Everyone, we should probably go home. School finished ten minutes ago, I'll take you home." Nate said, addressing me. I followed him out the diner and into the car.
"You know, you could find yourself a girlfriend instead of having multiple one night stands. You could catch something." I teased Nate as we begun to drive.
"Are you offering?" He smirked. I replied by slapping his arm.
"You wish!"
"Well, if you find anyone let me know." He dismissed.
"How about Amy?" I smirked, he looked over at me with a confused expression. "Or were you not flirting with her a minute ago? Oh, thank you Amy!" I mocked.
"Careful, babe, you're starting to sound jealous." He winked. "You should probably tell me where you live!"
