One week since the car journey and I haven't spoken to Nate. He won't let me. He knows I'll start asking questions about our date and he wants it to be a surprise. I want to squeal, I'm so excited. Even though this whole date is probably just Nate proving a point I don't care. What makes this mystery date even more exciting though is that it's on Valentines Day! I have no idea how he managed to plan anything in a week let alone on Valentines week so I cannot wait to see what he has planned.

It has just reached lunch, on the day of our date. Because Valentines Day falls on a school day we have our plans on the evening. I wasn't the first at our regular lunch spot today, Nate was. AHH! A wave of electricity came over me as I went to sit with him. Today I sat right next him on the bench, normally I sit opposite. I probably sat closer than I needed to but I don't care, I want to be close to him.

"Hi." I say with a mischievous smile plastered on my lips.

"I'm not telling you anything, Thea, don't even try." He grins back.

"Please! One tiny little detail?" I beg.

"Nope and you're going to have to stop being so cute otherwise I'm going to have to kiss you and I know you won't want that with all these people watching." He smirks.

"What are you two so excitable about?" Natalie asked as she sat at the bench with Blaine and Ethan.

"Nothing." Both of us say together, making us laugh. Ethan raises his eyebrows but I ignore him.

"You two are strange beings." Blaine says, confusion plastered all over his face.

"Anyway, guys, Singletines Day round my house tonight? 8pm?" Natalie asks with a smile. Singletines Day is when we all go to Natalie's house and get very very drunk because we're all alone on Valentines.

Except I'm not alone on Valentines Day. I've got a date with Nate! Guilt. I'm breaking Natalie's rules and I'm not even going to her stupid party to make up for it. Nate must've felt my guilt as he grabbed my hand under the table and gave it a big squeeze. Electricity.

"Oh, Nat, I actually can't come to that." I say. IMATERRIBLEFRIENDIMATERRIBLEFRIEND. My hand gets squeezed - electricity! And I'm calm.

"I have a date." Not a lie, less guilt.

"Oh my god! Who with?!" She squeals, Blaine and Ethan both listening closely.

"Milkshake boy!"

LIELIELIELIELIELIEGUILTGUILTGUILTGUILT.

"Aw!!! Thea, I'm so glad you gave that boy another chance." She smiles a genuine, warm smile at me.

I'm going to hell.

"Yeah, I can't come either." Nate says. How can he be so calm about lying to one of his best friends?

"What? Why?" Natalie sighs.

"I have a date too." He smirks. My heart explodes.

"Nate, are you seriously hooking up with a girl just to have sex when I've had this planned for ages?" Natalie snaps. I'm taken aback I've never seen her loose her temper before. Now its my turn to squeeze Nate's hand.

"No, Nat, its not like that." He explains. "This is legit."

"Hold the front door!" Blaine exclaims. "You're telling me that you, Nathaniel Pearce, are in a serious, committed relationship?"

"Well, it's not quite a relationship...yet. But I like the girl, a lot actually." He strokes my hand with thumb.

I think my heart has stopped functioning. I think Nate has killed me.
