The rest of the car journey was pretty silent, Nate didn't seem to enjoy talking about a potential girlfriend and whenever I brought it up he turned the music from the radio up louder to drown out my voice.
"Thank you, God!" Nate sighed in relief after I'd shut up placing his hands together as though he was praying and looking up into the sky through his car window. I gave him a hard slap on the arm in return making him smirk, not the reaction I had hoped for.
"You're a dick, you know that?"
"You love it!" I scoffed.
"You wish."
"Sorry, babe. Good girls aren't my type!" I groaned in annoyance at his arrogance, refusing to say anything else to him. It's impossible to have a normal conversation with this guy, everything he says is irritating and I'm on the verge of murdering him. Probably not the best idea though, he is my ride home.
We eventually pulled up outside the front of my house and in record time, I unplugged my seatbelt so that I could leave Nate. A loud crash caused me to stop just as I was about to open the passenger door, both Nate and I shot our heads over to where the noise had come from.Turns out it came from the front door of my house as it was slammed open by my aunt. She stormed down the driveway towards Nate's car, not caring that I had someone with me.
"THEODORA CARTER! GET YOUR ARSE OVER HERE RIGHT NOW!" She shrieked, her normally warm and friendly personality was now dark and outraged. She had her hands clenched in fists and her eyes were in slits. I would normally be terrified but the towel that was wrapped up in her hair made her slightly less intimidating.
"Shit!" I whispered knowing that I was in deep trouble.
"Theodora?" Nate sniggered.
"Shut up!" I snapped, shooting him an evil look which only caused him to laugh more. Not even bothering to say goodbye, I opened the door and jumped out.
"What? No kiss goodbye?" Nate teased with a smirk after I'd rounded the front of his car and was standing by his window. I glared at him as he leant out of it and pouted his lips for a kiss. I scoffed, turning away from his godlike features and putting all my attention on my aunt whose expression was confused, obviously hearing what Nate had said, I internally groaned knowing I would have a lot of questions to answer once this anger had blown over.I walked up to my aunt nervously, she quickly put her intimidating face back on when she noticed me. She grabbed my wrist and dragged me inside the house slamming the front door behind us. I grimaced at the loud sound it made only imagining what our neighbours must think right now. I wouldn't be surprised if they called the police and reported my aunt for child abuse.
"So, are you going to explain to me why you did it?" She said in a patronizing tone.
"Mind telling me what I did?" I asked, mimicking her sassy tone.
"I just got a call from your school," She crossed her arms over her chest and raised her eyebrows to try and intimidate me. "They said that you and a boy called Nathaniel ran out of your science class today and then never came back."
"Oh!" I sung, trying my hardest not to laugh at 'Nathaniel'. I made a mental note to bring that up the next time I spoke to him, that'll teach him not to laugh at my name.
"Do you really think that's acceptable?" She asked, beginning to yell again. "Getting a detention on your second day at the new school doesn't make a good impression does it? Do you know how embarrassed I was talking to your headteacher and having no idea where you were?"I decided it was best not to lie and tell her the real reason we left, explaining all about the hangover and the sheep heart.
"Thea," She sighed. "I've had my fair share of hangovers in my time so I know that the sheep heart couldn't have been very nice. But, couldn't you of just left that lesson and gone to the rest? Did you really have to leave school completely?"
"I'm sorry Auntie Emily, as soon as I did it I regretted it instantly. It won't happen again!"
"You better hope it doesn't. I don't want to punish you, Thea but if your mother finds out, I'm dead and you'll be shipped off to god knows where!" She's definitely not wrong, before I moved in with my aunt my mum warned her that if I were to get into any trouble at all, I wouldn't be allowed to live with my aunt anymore and I'd have to go to boarding school.
"Okay, I'll be good. Promise! Now just give me my punishment so I can go and have a nap."
"I'm not going to punish you. The school's done that for me, you have detention every Saturday morning for a month with that Nathaniel boy. That's enough of a punishment for me," I groaned, detention for a month with Nate would not be fun especially with his flirting. But at least that's all I get, I love how chilled my aunt is. If it was my mum punishing me I would not be allowed to leave the house for about four months and she'd probably call the school asking for my detention to be extended. She also would've punished Nate and I'm not joking.
"Speaking of this Nathaniel boy, is he your boyfriend?" My aunt asked. "Don't think I didn't hear what he said."
"What? No! Oh my God, no!" I instantly yelled. "He's just a friend, not even that really. He's a friend of a friend, an acquaintance!" My aunt chuckled at my response putting her hands up in surrender, knowing she'd hit a nerve.
Not prying on the subject, she let me go and nap. I'm not going to lie, going to bed at 3am last night was probably not the best decision considering I like to get up at 6am to get ready for school. I arrived at my bedroom door, running into my room and jumping onto my double bed and spreading out into a starfish position. Immediately feeling comfortable I closed my eyes and began to fall asleep, that was until a thought popped into my head that woke me up instantly. Has Nate been punished for leaving school? I mean, he should've it's his fault that I left. I quickly sat up and grabbed my phone from my bag that was at the end of my bed. Everyone gave me their number at the diner so I had Nate's number."Theodora." Nate answered after I found his name in my contacts list and dialled.
"Nathaniel." I replied, smugly.
"How the fu-?" Nate began before realising how I knew his full name. "I've asked that pissing school to change my name to Nate so many times! What do you want anyway?"
"Well, Nathaniel," I answered with a smirk causing Nate to groan at the other end of the line. "Did you get in trouble?"
"What for?"
"For robbing a bank, what the bloody hell do you think for?"
"Oh, you're talking about ditching school. Nope, I didn't!" He replied, popping the 'p'.
"What? Why?!" I yelled.
"My mum was at work, they left a message so I deleted it before she could hear. How badly did you get punished? Your mum looked like she was going to murder you earlier."
"Um, she's my aunt not my mum and I actually got let off the hook. She thought that the detention was a good enough punishment for me. She's not wrong either, spending a month every Saturday with you sounds like torture!"
"You know you're looking forward to it." He teased.
"No I'm really not." I mumbled, I don't know how it happened but at some point in the conversation with Nate I ended up in bed. My eyes were heavy and wanted to shut, without even caring about Nate, I allowed them to falling into a deep sleep.
