I never knew there was a perfect way to wake up until this morning. The bed in Ethan's spare room is the most comfortable thing I've ever felt and I honestly think I haven't slept as well as I did last night since I was in the womb. The mattress was the softest thing I've ever felt and it moulded perfectly around my body and the duvet was so snug and it left you the perfect temperature. Not only that, but, the bed in general was big enough to fit the majority of the school year in it and yet, Nate and I still managed sleep as close as possible despite all the room. Ah, Nate. His big, muscly arms were hugging me tightly like a baby hugs a teddy bear and my head was nuzzled into the crook of his neck, it was a perfect fit. His stubble lightly rubbed against my forehead making my body tingle from head to toe.
I'm giddy. A huge toothy grin is spread across my face and it only gets bigger when I remember the events of last night -
When I entered the spare room last night, I quickly fell asleep. However, I woke up when Nate came into the room. I'm a light sleeper so I wasn't surprised he woke me even though I could tell he was creeping, trying his hardest not to make one sound.
"Thea? Are you awake?" He whispered. I chose not to respond only because I was so tired and I don't think I would've been able to form a proper sentence even if I wanted to.
He waited, still for a moment and when I didn't reply he continued to make his way over to the bed. I knew he had sat on it when the mattress dipped from his weight. I could feel him moving around and by the sound I figured out that he was taking off his shoes. Then he was still again, but I could feel his eyes on me. I wanted to know what he was thinking so badly.
In one, swift motion he was laying beside me and he had managed to get his arms around me. I adjusted myself then to get comfortable in our embrace, Nate didn't move a muscle as I did so. I'm assuming its because he didn't want to wake me up. Then, he whispered into my hair -
"If only you knew what you were doing to me, Thea."
And kissed my forehead before shuffling down on the pillows and drifting to sleep.
I don't know what it was about that sentence that made my heart do somersaults. But it still is. It won't stop. I like this feeling. I feel like I can fly high and just float away.
Nate fidgets from underneath me then and pulls me out of my thoughts. I pretended to be asleep, I don't know why. In a heartbeat his arms have gone from around me and I suddenly feel cold. I feel him sit up beside me, our legs still touching. Then, I feel him stretch and yawn. Finally, I feel his eyes on me again. Say something cute, say something cute. Please, please, please.
He doesn't.
"You're not being very subtle checking me out, Nate." I mumble into the pillows, mocking what he said to me the previous day. Nate jumped.
"Jesus, fucking christ," He cursed. "You can't just do that, Thea. You're going to give me a heart attack."
I giggled, sitting up and stretching myself. Nate watches my every move making me very self conscious.
"What?" I asked.
"Your-"
"GOOD MORNING LOVE BIRDS!" Ethan sings as he barges through the bedroom door, causing Nate's head to snap in his direction. Talk about timing, I swear Nate was going to say something cute then.
"Shut up, Ethan! Friends can share a bed without being love birds, or whatever shit you said." Nate snapped.
Friends. Thats all we are, friends.
"Well," Ethan starts. "I was just wondering if you two will be wanting breakfast?"
"No, thank you." I say. "I don't have much of an appetite. I'm just going to go home."
