Short Update!

My father tried to talk but I locked myself in the bathroom, shower running as I sunk down onto the floor. Images flashed of the wolf, finger still feeling over the rough patch of skin near my ankle. I walked to my bedroom in a daze, the house very quiet as my father had followed me to bed. Sleep took hold of me, my dreams filled with blood and teeth. "Maya" A voice startling me out of bed. "Who are you?" I had to pretend I hadn't seen them arguing. "I'm Joe, Nick's friend. He sent me here so see if you were handling all this okay" His smile was kind, the room darker than before. "Better than expected I suppose, it's all just so strange to think they are actually out there" "Dont worry Princess, they will wont touch you ever again. Nick and I have your back now" He smirked before looking at my PJ'S. "Nice" He nodded, I looked down and realised I was wearing my Disney ones! "Oh god!" I laughed pulling the blanket further up. "Stay for a while, I can never go back to sleep once I'm awake" I moved my feet up so he could perch at the bottom. I asked him about everything, I asked about the knife but he dodged the question, I narrowed my eyes but left it. I nodded off, he was telling me about his family, the one before all of this. I woke once, turned over and found myself in his arms. I debated whether to stay or move but sleep took over and I slipped into a deep sleep. Smiling awake, I stretched slowly, the bed warm. "Morning" Joe murmured, I leapt out of bed. "Get out!" I half shrieked, my parents still downstairs. "Don't worry, I won't tell Nick about this" Joe yawned lazily before jumping out the window. I cursed out loud, getting ready. It was nearly 10:30am, how didn't my parents come in and wake up me? I thought throwing on any old clothes. "I'm off to Grandma's" I shouted running out the house. I would never hear the end of this if I was late. I made it with a few moments to spare and was tortured with endless tales of shopping and old movies she had watched throughout the week. I checked and re checked my phone but nothing. I stared at a small family enjoying the morning soon when Nick appeared in my sight. "Hey" He smiled crookedly, I couldn't force a frown so I raised my eyebrows. "Sorry about last night, I needed to do something" His frown was back, his hair stuck up in odd places. "It's okay, I had company" I winced at his reaction but carried on. "Joe stayed, and told me everything" I figured a bluff might expose him. "Yeah, he told me just before" We both stared at each other for a long time. "What happened last night, You cannot tell anyone. I won't be able to protect you from them" I grabbed his hand, needing his warmth. "Will you and Joe let me gather my thoughts before I decide?" I asked, voice cracking. "Of course" He hugged me hard, breathing in my scent. "I'll text you soon" It felt like a promise between us both. I closed my eyes and he was gone, as silent as the shadows. I still felt his presence near me, I was comforted by this but I didn't see him. My dreams haunted me. I couldn't stop thinking about him. I hardly left the house, let alone slept. I quit my job, I needed answers but I was too much of a wimp to go get them. My dreams haunted me, death and battlefields waited for me. Finally I plucked up the courage to reach out to him. I ran towards the park, knowing he would be there in a few minutes.

"Hello stranger" He said, appearing out of the darkness. "Hi" I nodded towards the lonely park bench, nerves races through me. "What's up?" His eyes drank me in, his face worn. His hair was more lighter than I had seen it before. "I couldn't be away from you any longer" I mumbled into my hand, hiding away. "I know, I feel the same way" His phone bleeped, his face dropped and I knew he had to go. "No Nick, my dreams are full of battlefields and death. My death in particular" I paled finally able to tell someone. "Your death?" His face still neutral he ran his hand through his hair. "Yes, there is a war heading our way and I don't survive it" I had accepted my death, I knew the world would be a better place than what is was now. "I refuse to let you die. I haven't seen you die!" He said more to himself as he paced in front of me. "I have accepted this, we now need to plan around it and ensure we win the war that is coming" I felt wiser than I should, feeling like I had aged over the course of this conversation. "My feelings for you won't go away Nick, no matter how much I try and deny them. It shouldn't be this way but it is" I stood up and grabbed his arm, stopping his pacing. "I feel them too, but the people I work for will kill us both if they knew we felt like this, we need to keep it hidden away for now. If this battle is coming, you will be protected. You see, I'm not here by chance. I am protecting you but you are going to become the most powerful creature this world will ever see. I need you alive" He kissed my forehead quickly before running towards the woods again.
