Chapter 11

One month later:

"So when should we go get our dresses?" Kenzie asked when I called her, exactly one month before the dance.

Jay had come to see me every afternoon since I gave him my answer.

We had been having a great conversation before Kenzie had called.

Speaking of which.

"How about tomorrow?" I ask, wanting to get it over with.

Because I never wear dresses.

Not even for Homecoming.

"Sure! Sounds great! I know this adorable little dress shop, and-"

Ten minutes later:

I hadn't been listening the whole time Kenzie was talking.

I couldn't stop thinking of Jay, and what our relationship will become.

That is, if we have one, because I really don't know what's going on between us.

"So, I'll see you tomorrow?" Kenzie asks a few minutes later.

"Yeah. Can't wait." I say in the best happy voice I have.

She says good bye, and hangs up the phone.

I go down stairs to grab a few snacks, and run into my mom.

"Hey Cass! Are you OK? You look kind of, I don't know, down." She says, tilting my face up to look at her.

Why is it that when you have a problem, mothers always find out?

She looks into my eyes, and I don't know why, but we both start crying.

"Honey. I'm so sorry I haven't been around much! My new boss has me working overtime, and-"

I cut her off.

"Mom! As long as I know your alive, it doesn't matter if you're with me every hour! Just as long as you don't end up like,"

And I can't finish that sentence.

It hurts to much.

She pulls me into a tight hug, picks me up off the floor (I had no clue I fell!), and we both sit on the couch.

Me on my mother's lap.

Both of us crying.

And that's how we stayed.

All night, food, the last thing on my mind.

Short chapter again.

I know, I know, why with the short chapters?
