Morning
I turn over and check my phone.
8:56 am
"Why does this always happen to me?" I say with a stretch. "You up Mom?" I ask still with my eyes closed.
"Yep. Been up since 8. I never sleep later than that." She replies through brushing her teeth.
"Alright. Let me get up and dressed." I roll out of bed and stumble to the bathroom.
"So what were you thinking for breakfast?" Mom asks.
"Does it need to be quick we have about 8 hours of driving left?" I reply.
"I was thinking raiding the breakfast table downstairs." She suggests stuffing her toothbrush into her bag and zipping it up.
"Cool with me." I say coming out dressed. I brush my teeth.
"I'll meet you down there." She says walking out the door."
"Okay!" I shout before the door closes.
I gather the rest of my things and head down to the lobby.
Mom is making bagels for us and putting eggs and cheese in between the buns with the cream cheese keeping it all together.
"Okay," she starts, "take this I have drinks in a cooler."
"I'm ready." I respond.
I take the food and walk out of the hotel.
"So today is the day." I say to mom walking towards her car.
"Yep." Mom replies.
I take a couple drinks from her and skip to my truck.
"Alright no stops today so we can be there by 4." She says.
"Well I'll just have to pee in this bottle then." I say holding up a water bottle.
"I guess so." She laughs as she gets into the car.
I start up my truck and follow mom out.
7 hours later.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
"Hello?" I say.
"Yeah we might have to stop. I am a mother and my bladder is telling me go. Like NOW." She slightly yells.
"Alright. Let's go." I say hanging up.
We pull into a gas station to go to the restroom and pick up a couple snacks.
"So we are already here right?" I say getting out of my truck.
"Yep. About 45 minutes into the town and we'll be at our new house." Mom says fast walking into the store.
"Cool, cool. I'm going to pick up a snack. What do you want?" I ask.
"Uh, Corn Nuts, you know what kind." She says walking into the restroom.
"Original it is." I turn down an isle.
I grab the Corn Nuts for mom, myself a Reese's, and both of us a Coke. I walk to the register and put my items on the counter without looking at the cashier. When I look up he's looking at me.
"Hi." I say as my face turns pink.
"Hey." The beautiful stranger answers, "it'll be $9.56."
I hand him a $10 bill, grab the bag and wait for my change. (Yeah I'm cheap, judge me)
"Here you go, 44 cents is your change. Have a nice day beautiful." He says.
"Oh wow. Thank you, uh for the change and .. Um okay bye." I stammer walking out of the door where my mom is already waiting.
I wipe my forehead where I felt sweat forming. "Okay here you go mom." I hand her, her things.
"Are you okay?" She asks with her head tilted to the side a bit.
"Mhm, I'm fine lets get going I'm tired." I say quickly turning to go to my truck.
"Okay?" She shrugs and pulls out of the parking lot.
I follow her out and crank up the radio.
Approximately 45 minutes later...
Mom turns down a street that leads into a subdivision and we pass a school. "I guess that's where I'll be going next week." I say to myself.
Finally we pull up to a house. I'd say it's a pretty average two story house. I get out of the truck and walk up to the drive way.
"Here we are..." I say with an extended sigh at the end.
"Yeah, you ready?" She jingles the keys and walks up to the door.
"As ready as I'll ever be." I walk with her.
She unlocks and opens the door.
"Home sweet home." She says.
