Jason looked at me and then at our hands entangled repeatedly. He wasn't sure of what I was about to do, but I was firm and impassive.
I knew what he meant with his words, I understood perfectly. Jason spent his whole life in doubt.
In doubt of where his biological mother was. In doubt if he could still love. So I understood, because the only thing a person wants, after living in so many doubts, is certainties. But the weird thing is that he was opening up to me, me that had everything, except from certainties.
"Let's go"
He didn't know where I was going or what my sentence meant, but I was glad that he was still holding my hand.
We walked outside and fortunately we didn't have to return back, because Jason had his car keys in his pocket.
"Am I driving?" I laughed, because I already knew that he wouldn't have ever let me drive his "baby".
"Here!" He threw me the keys, but I didn't manage to catch them in time, because I wasn't expecting that gesture from him.
"You want me to drive your daughter?" I asked shocked.
"Move, before I change my mind" he said getting in the passenger seat.
Jason trusted me. He showed me his weaknesses, his doubts and his wounds. He broke down in front of me. And now his car. I like to call it progress.
I continued to drive and fortunately it wasn't too late. I didn't even manage to cook my poor dinner, in fact I was starving.
I parked and I gave him a sweet smile.
"We're here"
"Where are we?" He asked confused.
"The alleys of New York!" I said proud.
"And what are we doing here?" He got out of the car even more confused.
"You said you didn't know me, so here we are" I answered giving him his car keys.
"In a cold and lonely alley of New York?"
"Yes Miller" his expression made me laugh.
We started walking in complete silence. I knew he wanted to ask me a lot of questions, but he was trying not to.
We passed a few alleys and a group of guys stared at us, more precisely at me. Too much. We heard them laugh and I felt Jason tighten his hand around mine and pulling me closer. Looks like possession was in his blood.
"Jealous?" I mocked.
"No. Just making sure you don't get raped on a wall"
I shooked my head, while I dragged him with me and we arrived in a little alley enlightened by colourful lights. I walked a bit further and then I finally saw him in his usual spot.
"Chris!"
He immediately lifted his gaze and stopped whatever he was doing.
"Mrs. Woods?" He asked incredulous.
"In person" I chuckled.
"What brought you here at this time?"
"I'm here with a friend""Friend?" Jason whispered in my ear.
"Shut up!"
"What's your name young man?"
Jason was obviously disorientated and wasn't understanding much. Chris was an old man, I didn't know his age, but his white beard said that he could've been 60. He was a street performer.
