"She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the Universe on her shoulders and it look like a pair of wings."

Evelyn's POV
The three of us dock the ship and Jack asks me to stay behind to keep watch but I refuse profusely, wanting to see what all the fuss is over this city. He rolls his eyes but obliges and I smile triumphantly as we walk through the drunken streets of Tortuga.
Ten seconds into this town and I'm automatically repulsed. Everyone who stumbles by has to be a pirate and is either drunk, grotesquely sucking someone else's face or is practically bathing in rum from it being poured all over them. I instinctively step closer to Jack and Will as I walk by one man who stares at me a few seconds too long.
Jack starts speaking to Will about something but they're cut off when one man grabs my arm and I almost scream. His half-lidded eyes and smirking expression tell me that this man is beyond wasted as he stumbles closer to us, never letting go of the firm grasp he has on my arm.
"Get off of me or this is going where it counts," I pull out my sword on this guy and he just laughs, taking a step closer and I feel a slight pain in my arm from his tight hold. I'm about to knee him where it matters when two swords come out from behind me, one over each shoulder, pointing at the guy.
"Do what the girl says," I hear Jack warn, his voice practically inaudible it's so low. The man seems to get a bit spooked by his warning as his eyes widen slightly - only slightly - and he loosens his grip. I instantly pull my arm away from him, looking at the red marks he left on my lower arm.
I notice Jack's eyes dart down to my arm and then up to my eyes, lingering for a second there, but quickly move back to the man.
"How much for the girl, mate?" The disgusting man hiccups as he starts pulling out something too tattered beyond recognition for it to be counted as a wallet.
"She isn't for sale, you pig," Will growls, taking a step towards the man and I grab his shoulder, holding him back. He notices that he got closer and moves back next to me. The man briefly glances at Will, before fixing his eyes back on Jack.
"You heard the man." Jack doesn't lower his sword as he holds it near the man's neck and I notice a shudder run through him. He takes a step back, with one last look at me, before practically running back into whatever hole he came from.
"Thank you," I let a breath I didn't realize that I was holding as I hesitantly put my sword back in it's place. Will gives me a reassuring squeeze on my shoulder before placing his sword back as well. Jack sighs from beside me as he pinches the bridge of his nose and I'm about to say something to him before he groans.
"This is why you should've just stayed back at the Interceptor," He opens his eyes, staring right at me. I've never actually seen him serious before; I'm sure this is quite a rare occurrence for anyone who knows Jack.
"Excuse me, but I can handle myself," I fight back, feeling quite offended that he thinks of me as just another girl who can't do anything except for take care of a home, cook and clean. He didn't exactly say that but I can just tell that's what he's getting at.
"Clearly not," He practically seethes and I'm surprised he's taking this so badly.
"Trust me, I don't need you or anyone to take care of me. I'm perfectly fine on my own, always have been, always will be." I take a step closer so I'm standing right in front of his face and don't take my eyes off of his. He doesn't back down but I notice his eyes flicker with some emotion before going back to blank.
