"True love will triumph in the end—which may or may not be a lie, but if it is a lie, it's the most beautiful lie we have."
― John Green
Evelyn
Judging by my past experiences with these men, you'd think I'd be used to being shoved down dark, unfamiliar corridors by now. Never gets that easy, though. I obviously offer up complete resistance to these white-wigged idiot's arms on me because why would I make it easy for them? I didn't see them ever move their pointed guns from Jack and the others necks, so why should I not fight like all my friends are dead?
As I'm shoved into a room, I immediately rush around and pound against the door but they're too quick, automatically turning on their heels and slamming the doors shut behind them.
"Goddammit," I groan to myself as I take a step back, running my hands through my disheveled hair. My hair is way too far past becoming clean again so I don't even mind it when more dirt and crust come off on my fingers.
"Jesus, Evelyn," An extremely familiar voice sighs from behind me, and I immediately turn on my heel, my stomach dropping when I see who it is.
"Oh my god," I can't help myself from rushing into his arms. Will wastes no time in reciprocating as his arms latch onto me, wrapping around my waist and tugging me into his chest. It's only been a day since I've seen his face but it feels like a lifetime judging by everything that's changed in only the past day and a half.
"Why are you...why weren't you-" I start but he's pulling back, gripping my shoulders as his dark eyes glare into mine.
"I don't have that much time, Beckett doesn't know you're in here right now and once he finds you..."
"Wait, wait, wait...you had all his guards and Jones' men go in and find me? I find that hard to believe." I retort, backing up from him as he slowly lets go of my shoulders, his concerned gaze never leaving mine.
"No, Beckett knew what he was getting but I managed to get them to make a...detour. I needed to talk to you," I back up once more, shaking my head.
"Well, I need to ask you some things first. First of all, how the hell are you even here? And why? I mean, last time I saw you, you were with Barbossa and Elizabeth and-"
"Jack." I sigh at his brief explanation. How could I have expected anything else?
"How'd you know?" He chuckles, half-joking and my heart jolts at the memory of the tears streaking down Jack's face as I was tugged away from the Brethren Court.
"That brings me to my next question. What the hell, Will?" I snap, obviously being completely vague about what I'm referencing but I don't really care at the moment. His confused puppy-dog eyes cause me to roll my eyes but I don't back down.
"What are you talking about?" He questions, looking genuinely confused but I don't buy it.
"I mean...I knew you were out for yourself when I overheard you and Sao Feng talking but I never thought you would go this far-" I rant, running my hands through my hair once again as I pace around the room. How the hell did I let myself trust this guy?
"Evie, I swear, I was never out to hurt any of you. Especially you." His brutally honest words cause me to stop in my tracks, pivoting on my heel and stomping back to him.
"Especially me?" I cock an eyebrow at this statement and all he does is stare straight into my eyes, never breaking eye contact, even when I take a menacing step closer. "What do you mean by that?" I scoff, daring him to tell the truth. Will goes silent, unable to speak for a few moments, only stare idiotically back at me.
