I was woken up by small droplets on my head. I grabbed my pillow off my hammock and put it on my face.
"Come on sleepy head. Work is calling your bloody name." Newt said as he snatched away my pillow and smiled. I sat up and rubbed my eyes. Newt smiled and sat down next to me handing me a pile of clothes.
"Put these on. We found ya some new stuff to wear that seemed more your size."
"Yeah. Thanks." I said as got up and stretched.
"That's it? No 'Good morning Newt! How are you feeling today?'" Newt said sarcastically as we walked to the kitchen. I just smiled and laughed, making him smile too.
"So...how are things in the kitchen?" Newt said as I walked and put on my apron.
"Why don't you come back here and find out while helping me cook?" I laughed. To my surprise, he came back and took an apron.
We talked about what we thought life would be like outside of the maze. I didn't tell him about my flashbacks. He seemed to speak bad about the world. He sounded as if there was no hope for the human race. After we finished making breakfast I walked out and into the bathroom and I got changed. While I was changing my clothes, Newt offered to clean up the kitchen. When I came out he looked at my clothes and then told me to turn around. I sighed and did what he asked. He gave me his nod of approval and we walked outside just in time to hand the Runners their breakfast.
"Thanks (Y/n)! Thanks Newt!" Minho and the others yelled as they ran off into the maze.
"There's something about the sunshine today... It seems off..." Cole said as he walked over to me.
Newt growled at him and crossed his arms, taking a look at the sun. "It does look a little bit darker than yesterday."
"Its probably your eyes weirdos. Don't you have jobs to do?" I asked them while putting my hands on my hips. They rubbed the back of their heads and walked off to where they were supposed to be working. I caught up with Alby and started talking to him.
"Another newbie is coming tomorrow. I can't believe it's been a month since you came here. Time flies." Ably said as we walked in the Deadheads collecting sticks for a fire.
I can't believe it's been a month. It couldn't have been. "Yeah, me too. I can't believe I've spent a month with all of you weirdos." I laughed. Alby smiled as he swung one of the sticks at another tree.
"To be honest, it surprised everyone when you came. I hope there's a guy greenie again or else the boys may go crazy again." Alby laughed.
"Crazy? Was everyone upset that I came?" I said while pouting.
"No no no, I mean crazy in the good way. Almost everyone in the Glade had or still has a thing for you." Alby mumbled something else, but I couldn't hear what it was.
We kept chopping wood for around two hours. I had gotten a couple splinters and cuts, but nothing that serious. After that Frypan called me into the kitchen and told me we need to start dinner as soon as possible. The whole greenie thing is a big deal.
"Funny... I don't remember me getting a feast when I came. All I got was a crappy sandwich that Newt stole." I mumbled.
"It was actually quite a good sandwich." A familiar voice said.
"And what do I owe the pleasure of seeing you? While I'm working too." I said as I started grilling hamburgers.
Newt smiled but Frypan wouldn't let him in the kitchen.
"It's pouring out there. I thought I'd be your escort back to your hut." Newt announced.
"Alright. Just wait for me I'll be right out." I answered.
Frypan and I made a lot more food for this greenie than I got. It started ticking me off at some point. I snuck a couple burgers with me as I left. Newt and me immediately wet as we walked outside. Newt grabbed my arm and ran to the Deadheads.
"I THOUGHT YOU SAID WE WERE GOING TO THE HUT!" I yelled so he could hear me.
"WELL I KNEW YOU WOULDN'T GO IF I TOLD YOU WE WERE GOING HERE!" Newt admitted.
When we got under all the dead trees the rain wasn't as hard. I stomped over to Newt and pushed him out of the way.
"Hey what's with you?" Newt questioned.
"Why'd you drag me here?" I said walking farther into the dark woods.
"I thought we could hang out alone for a bit y'know. Learn more about each other." Newt suggested.
I laid down in the dead grass and sighed.
"What's there to know? We've all lost most of our memories..." I choked on my own words.
Whoever was behind this wanted us to suffer and feel weak.
"Well... I'm sure you remember something." Newt said.
I turned to the other side so he couldn't see me. I did remember a couple things. The flashbacks and then just random stuff.
"Well...I like rain...I guess..." I spoke while sitting in a fetal position.
"What about the rain?" Newt said sweetly.
"Hm. The way the water drops is just soothing. A-and the smell! It always smells damp and calming. Everything seems more at peace when it rains." I admit with a smile.
Newt laughed and I started laughing too. We talked about each other's interests. Even though we couldn't remember much, we dug into our memories to remember the little things like common animals and foods.
"Favorite color?" Newt asked.
"Good question. I'd have to pick (f/c). It's such a nice color." I chirped happily.
I looked up at the sky and laughed. It was pitch black.
"We missed dinner." Newt said.
"Oh!" I said as I took out the burgers. "They're probably a bit cold but that's okay." I said as I handed him one.
"Thanks (Y/n). You're the best!" Newt joked as he poked my arm.
We walked back to my hut without being noticed. If anyone saw us we'd be in deep trouble.
"Hey. Why don't you stay here tonight? -Alby may see you while you're walking and that'd suck." I suggested.
"Yeah, sounds good." He said as we fell asleep next to each other.
