I was walking around the Glade when Newt rushed up to me. He frowned at me and grabbed my hand while running.

"Newt where are we going?!" I yelled.

"You've been accused of stealing something. Shuck-face, what were you thinking?" Newt yelled at me. His voice was like poison.

'Was taking a couple ingredients to make a sandwich that bad?'

In my head, my reasoning sounded kinda stupid. But in my defense, I was starving. It wasn't lunch time yet and I'd slept in so I thought I could make my own food. We stopped at a building used for a meeting hall. The boys sat in chairs, Alby in the middle. Newt sat in the one next to him, glaring daggers at me. I sat in the cent of the room. Gally was the first to speak.

"I say we put her in the pit. She stole and didn't give back."

Alby sighed and Minho shook his head.

"Give her a chance to explain herself Gally," Alby said harshly. He looked at me and raised his eyebrows. I bit my lip and tried to explain.

"You see, I was hungry and missed breakfast. I thought I could sneak into the kitchen and make something..." I explained.

The boys exchanged some whispers. Newt spoke up telling me one night in the pit would do me good. It was around sundown already so Newt was assigned to bring me there. The pit was literally a square hole in the ground with bars instead of a door. An unground prison. Newt opened the door and I jumped in.

"Don't act all happy. The pit ain't fun Greenie," he spit out.

I sat down and looked away from him. He was being a jerk and I wanted to slap him. Newt isn't like this. One little thing I do wrong sets him off into a state of madness.

"Alby will be here to take you out at sunrise, so sleep tight," Newt said as he closed the gate. I crossed my arms and closed my eyes. Before leaving he said, "Good night."

The two words were gentler than anything else he said before.

"Wake up Y/n. We're getting you a job today," a voice said. I grumbled and woke up to Alby helping me out of the pit. When I got out he took me to the kitchen.

"Frypan, welcome your very own assistant. Y/n, you'll be working in the kitchen from now on," Alby said.

Frypan huffed not trying to hide the fact that he was upset about this. Once Alby left, Frypan showed me how to cook pancakes the way he did. Add water to batter, mix, pour, cook, then serve. Boys came piling in wanting food right away. It took ten minutes for ten pancakes, one for every boy. It took me around an hour to make them all. I got a head start though so I was ready when the boys came.

"Pancake for the dear Runner," I said to Minho when he came up to me. He laughed as he took his plate.

"Leader should get first dibs," Alby said taking his plate. I stuck my tongue out at him.

Newt came up to me and took his plate. He wouldn't even look me in the eye.

"What's wrong? No sarcastic comments?" I asked him with a weak smile.

He gave a small laugh. Nothing much though. Anyone in this room could tell he was upset.

"Meet me in the forest after your shift. We need to talk," Newt said as he walked away.

I got done with my shift pretty quick. Frypan helped me find new clothes. Just a plain ran t-shirt and pants. I ran into the forest right after to see Newt. I found him waiting by a tree. When he saw me, he lowered his head.

"What's been going on Newt?" I ask.

He looks up, his face dirty. "Not sure Greenie. You tell me."

I laughed and he smiled.

"So did you plan on inviting me here so we could sit together?" I asked with a smile as I sat down next to him.

"That was my master plan. Figured me out quick," Newt said.

We laughed and then got quiet. I looked at him and asked, "What's been your deal lately? Yesterday you were all snappy and-"

"I did that because I was upset with you. Don't break rules here."

I looked at him and he was looking at his feet.
"Newt, why do you-" I was stopped by a pair of lips coming on mine. The kiss wasn't that forceful, more sweet. It didn't last too long but when we parted he blushed.

"You really gotta stop talkin'. Gets annoying when you won't shut up." He got up and walked away, saying nothing else. I sat there for around half an hour until I remembered I had training to do with Frypan. I got up and started running to where the kitchen was. I was almost there when I lost feeling in my legs. Just when a couple of Gladers ran up to me I passed out.

A red sky was out the window. The sun and burned plants, or remains of them least. A room with one window but many people, all girls to be exact. The one walked up to a younger me and told me I was going to trick the people who took us here. Where's here? Instead of going with Group B I'd mess up and go with Group A. She wanted revenge. They all did, including me. When she came I'd run. They ensured me everything would be okay when I went with Group A. They said they'd see me again. A girl with black hair came in, asking for me. I charged at her and knocked her over. Running to a door I ran in and blacked out remembering nothing after.

I woke up on a bed. Another boy was sitting next to me and I could hear him yell for Newt, Minho, and Alby. They came running in and Newt looked the most worried. He sat down on the bed next to my body and grabbed my hand. Tears almost broke from his eyes, but he held back.

"What happened?"
