Dad and I walk into the UC fifteen minutes before the team, as always. Q heads one direction into his office, and I head to my training room. Some of my staff are already here doing their weekly inventory. I greet them with a smile, and head into my office. I lace up my skates and head out early so I can warm up. I tell my staff I need them on the ice as soon as they're done.

I'm the first on the ice. I speed around the outer rim of the ice, figure 8 around cones, shred ice under my skates. My normal warmups every morning. The first few players show up, and my team and I place cones and other equipment on the ice. Q calls me over and we talk about what we need done today. I check my clipboard and go over revisions I made on today's plan. Q okay's it, and I start with the team as the last of them run onto the ice.

"So, we are going to work on speed and coordination. We have two and a half hours today", I start. The guys all focus their attention to me. "Crawford and Darling, go do your normal routines for now, I'll talk to you two in a bit. So, I want defensemen and left wingers over with Arron and them for speed workout, and I want centers and right wingers over with Zee and her little team. Half way through, we will switch off. That clear?" Everyone nods and I send them off on their way.

I watch from outside the bench to see how each player is working. I take small notes on what I need to improve on with a certain player, or what I think they have passed my test on, and don't need as much help on with that skill. He's done with puck skills, those two are done with traveling, and that group is done with the obstacle course.

I work with Tiffany and the goalies on their five-hole stoppers, and with catching the puck before it hits the cross bar. Darling is better at stopping the cross bar shots, and Crawford is better at the five-hole.

After we hit the two and a half hour mark of practice, Q and I call it a day with them, and the team heads back into the locker room. Kane, Darling, Toews, and Tootoo stay out to help me clean up the ice and put everything in piles for my staff to bring back to the training room.

I get everything picked up and put on the bench for my staff. Darling, Kane, and Tootoo head back into the locker room to shower, and Toews is behind me carrying the last thing to the bench.

Somehow, I don't see a puck right in front of me and I trip on it, falling backwards. Right before I hit the ground, a pair of arms catch me. I find my balance and quickly spin around. Toews has a smirk on his face. Just inches away from each other, my eyes take a moment to focus on his face.

"There's a puck right there, watch out", Jonathan says, giving me another smirk.

He pushes me back to my feet and I rush off the ice, careful to not trip on the puck again. I rush past everyone and to my office. I remove my skates and start my usual work, not thinking about what just happened. But it's not working.

He did that on purpose, he knew there was a puck there. One side of my conscience says. He's super cute, don't question what just happened, the other side says. Cute? I think he's cute? I guess he is attractive, but I can't act on it. I work for his boss, who's my father, who's my boss.

I'm brought back to reality when my office phone rings. I wait a second and look at the number before picking it up. "CJ Quenneville", I say as my greeting, not knowing who the number was.

"Oh, you sound so serious", it's Kayla. "Hey, so Derek is having a party tonight at his house. You want to come?".

"What time? I have work tomorrow. It's my paperwork day. I have to be here at seven".

"Starts at ten, so I want to be there at ten thirty", Kayla loves being fashionably late. "Come on please. It's time for you to have some fun again. This job is taking over your life. You're twenty-six years old. We still need fun in our lives".

I groan. "Fine. But I'm only going until midnight. This job is really important Kay, and you know that. Now, I have to finish a few things here. Be at my house after your shift is over".

"Okay. See you later. Bye". She hangs up the phone and I put the phone back on its hold. I finish my next thing on my to do list and shut my computer off. My staff has already left for the day, so I'm the only one in the training room. It's quiet in here, so I turn everything off quickly and leave.

This party is going to be a bad idea.
