6:45 pm on Friday
The shadows from the gazeebow covered me as I watched the last of the kids rush off into the murky night. My pale, boney fingers grasped my old Blackberry before typing the memorized number into the phone. As I heard the phone ring, I pressed it to my ear.
The low growl of a voice sent excited, lovestruck electricity through me. His voice was low and raspy as he spoke, "Has the fun started yet?"
"They just split up. I think you will find one of them useful," I whispered, careful not to be overheard.
A gruff chuckle emitted from the speaker before asking, "How long until they get here?"
I nodded my head as I guestimated how long it would take the teens to get to the center of the woods. "Give 'em a few hours. They get dumber every year."
"Yeah, and I thought your group was dumb." I tried to not become offended at his words. I do love him after all.
I faked a laugh at his hurtful words before telling him I loved him. I waited for a reply on his end, but received silence which made me hit the end button quicker than I wanted to.
Looking around at that moment brought a sense of nostalgia back to me. I had so many fun memories in the park. My eyes ran along the foggy area around me. It was right here where I began my journey to finding my one and only.
I shook my head, sliding my phone into my pocket. I hummed as I twirled my keys around my fingers while I made the small journey to my car.
Memories flashed in my mind as I tread along the hard terrain. Several doubts pushed to the front of my brain, but I shoved them back, refusing to give in to such nonsense. His infamous words rang in my head: "Just trust me. I'll always love you and take care of you."
