"Why do you have a compass?" Chris fell in line with me, but it didn't take long for Katie to catch up.

"I just wanted to be prepared. What's the harm in that?"

"Nothing."

For the first time that night, we traveled in complete silence. That is until we heard a twig snap in the distance.

Currently...

10:15 pm on Friday

"Did you guys hear that?" Katie asked loudly. I quickly shushed her, fear was beginning to fill me. There was someone out there, and they would hear her obnoxiously loud voice.

I whispered to Katie and Chris to stay quiet. Chris sent me a look, before rolling his red eyes at me. Katie and I shrugged him off before taking a few steps in the direction of the noise and using the flashlight to try to see better, but there was nothing.

Finally John spoke, "It must've been an animal or something. A person would have made more noise than that. Why don't you guys take a hit of something to calm your nerves?"

Katie and I shared a look before heading in the direction we were before. Who else would be in the woods at ten o'clock at night?

Though we walked on, I just couldn't shake the thought that someone was back there, "I swear I heard someone back there Chris."

Chris rolled his crimson stained eyes, "Are you sure you don't want a blunt?"

I scoffed, "No, I don't want to kill brain cells. I'm telling you it was something. What would be out here besides the other groups?" I sighed, "Yeah, I'm just anxious. It must not be anything."

Chris looked at both Katie and me, "You guys both looked like someone stole your lollypops. How about I tell you guys a story?"

Katie and I looked at him to go on.

He smiled a devious and mischievous grin, "Once upon a time there were 3 people traveling through the woods. They heard a noise, but the guy of the group convinced them it was nothing, and to continue on. They ended up hearing a spine chilling shriek break the quiet around them. When the the boy and the girl in a dress looked around they saw that the hipster with the flannel around her waist was missing." Chris paused before letting out a scream. Both Katie and I jumped in response.

"Chris! How is that supposed to make us feel better?" I asked as I slapped him in the arm.

He was laughing very hard, but he managed to speak through his fit of giggles, "I never said it was going to make you feel better, I just said I was going to tell you a story,"

Katie pouted as she stepped closer to me and nonchalantly checked behind her to make sure nothing was there, "You're a prick, Chris."

He snorted slightly because of how hard he was laughing, "I know I am, Bambi."

I rolled my eyes, "Do you always have to be a jerk? Or is this just special treatment for us?" I shoved passed the boy, making sure to put my shoulder into him for a good shove.

"No, I am pretty much always a jerk, but just for you girls, I turned it up a notch," He winked at Katie, not put down at all by our animosity. Katie soon fell in step with me and we let Chris take the lead.

Katie and I didn't speak another word, letting the boy lead the way. Fed up with the silence, Chris turned around, walking backwards, "What's the big deal? It was just a joke. Seriously."
