I can't believe it.....my best friend.....so what do I do now?

"We conducted a further test....to back up the information which we had already received"

"Further test.......what did you do?"

"The scratches were close knit but we looked under the microscope to check if there was any trace of blood....with a blood sample then we could match it to the fingerprint"

"And what result did you find?"

"There was no blood.......the scratches are too close together and it proves beyond reasonable doubt that they were made by long fake fingernails.....but the nail itself is sharp enough to break the skin and therefore it would be easy to conclude that gloves were used....but as you can work out from that.......the nail would be on the inside of the glove and not on the outside.....this helps us make another conclusion"

"What's that?"

"The nail was not used to cause the scratches but was placed there or more likely dropped"

"So does your test conclude that sex was involved?"

"Yes I do and obviously if it was not consented.....then it was assault"

"You can't surely think that"

"We have to go on the evidence and as we reached this conclusion"

"What?"

"We had to bring the police in"

"I understand....but I wanted to speak with Ailsa before anyone else"

"They won't act until after speaking with you.....they don't want to be making any accusations without proper evidence"

"That's good......I will go to the police station but I need to take Rose back with me"

"No problem.....I will have her brought to you"

"Yes......I had to undergo a few tests but it wasn't that bad"

"Good........we need to go to the police station"

"Why are we going there?"

"Because the finger print has been identified"

"I don't understand why we are going to the police though"

"I asked you about it......to tell me if you knew anything about the nail and you said no.......so we have to assume that you were assaulted"

"Assaulted......without my knowledge?"

"I don't know.......think back Rose.....who was the last person you spoke to before coming home that day"

"Well yes I remember that......Ailsa wanted to talk to me about something"

"You never mentioned this"

"I didn't think it was that important.....she wanted to tell me who she was"

"You told me that......she was a former teacher"

"Not exactly......did you know her son Jamie?"

"Yes....he killed himself......it was all very sad"
