"Have you talked to mom?" Caleb asked as he put his cleats on.

Y/N shook his head. "Why?" Caleb groaned.

"Because she plans on meeting us at the ballfield. Why don't you want to play?" Y/N asked.

"I don't like it. I just... it's not my favorite sport." He lied. He liked baseball, but liked watching it on TV better.

Y/N sighed and got on Caleb's level. "What's the real reason?"

"Because mom only signed me up so I wouldn't think of Reign. I try to tell her that I don't like it, but she never listens! She wanted me to be on this stupid team so much, but she doesn't even come to a game! She just tells me to give it time and I'll love it, but I don't. Dad...why doesn't she listen?"

Y/N's heart broke at his sons words. Why didn't Caleb tell him this before?

"Buddy, take your uniform off. You're not playing."

Caleb smiled a little before running up to his room.

Finally, someone listened.

*

Kendall and her family pulled up to the ballfield and hopped out. "Do you see Y/N's car?"

She sighed and shook her head. Kendall had heard all about how Y/N and Caleb are the first ones to the field and the last ones to leave.

"Can I help you all?" A tall man in his mid-fifties asked.

"Um...yes. I was just looking for my husband and son." Kendall said.

"You must be Caleb's family. I'm his coach Steve Cooper."

They all smiled at him. "Its very nice to meet you. Speaking of Caleb, where is he?"

Steve raised his brow. "Y/N called and said he was sick. Didn't he tell you first?"

Kendall was surprised. Why in the hell did Y/N not call her?

*

Y/N and Caleb sat out by the pool, watching their two year old German Shepherd, Gus fetch the ball out of the water.

"Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N!" They heard Kendall call.

They both quickly jumped up. They ran inside and saw Kendall in the living room, hands on her hips.

"Hi baby."

"Hi mommy." Caleb smiled.

Kendall walked over and felt his forehead. "I heard your sick."

"Stomach bug. Was getting ready for the game and he just vomited." Y/N said.

"Why doesn't he look sick? And if he was, he needs to stay in bed!" Kendall stood up.

Caleb looked up at his parents.

"Why didn't you take him to his game?!" Kendall raised her voice.

"I'm not going to fight with you in front of Caleb." Y/N said calmly.

Caleb got up and went upstairs to his room. He knew what was coming.

As he walked up the stairs, the screaming started.

He heard Kendall yell that Y/N lied to his coach, made her and her family drive all the way to the ballfield for nothing.

Y/N was screaming that if Kendall actually took the time to listen to Caleb, that she would've made the same decision.

He also heard something about him being Kendall's last priority.

The front door slammed shut.

A car started outside and left.

Caleb quietly snuck out of his room and crept down the stairs.

He got close to the bottom step and saw Kendall sat on the couch, her face in her hands.

"Mom?" Caleb questioned.

Kendall looked up and once she saw it was Caleb, she quickly wiped her eyes.

"Hey buddy." She sniffled.

"Where's dad?"

"He went on a drive. He'll be back in a little bit."

Caleb nodded and headed for the stairs.

"Um Caleb?"

He stopped and turned around. "Yeah mom?"

"I...uh...I missed you."

He nodded and went back up to his room.

*

Knock, knock, knock.

Kendall moved her hand to wake Y/N up.

He wasn't there.

She got out of bed, walked out of her room, and went downstairs as the knocking became consistent.

She answered the door and saw Scott. He was in tears.

"Scott? What's the matter?"

"Why the hell haven't you answered your damn phone?!" He yelled.

"I was in bed. Did you try to call me? Is everything alright?"

Scott didn't say anything, his eyes were focused on something behind Kendall. She turned around and saw Caleb.

"Buddy, go back to bed."

Scott looked back at Kendall, tears falling from his cheek.

"Kendall, it's Y/N..."

"W-what do you mean? Is he alright?"

"He came to my house, we talked, and...oh my god I'm such an idiot!" He started crying even harder.

"Scott, what in the hell happened?! Where is my husband?!?" Kendall yelled at him.

He looked at her.

"I should've asked him to stay the night. He was crying, it's night, and all I grasses was a big crash..."

"Is he okay?" Was all she could get out as tears cascaded down her cheeks.

"Somehow..."
