The weeks passed by quickly and Kate found herself happier than she had been since Rick had gott left.

They would go on their weekly dates again and Rick had begun to start trusting her again.

Kate made herself promise that every time she saw Jay she wouldn't have a panic attack, and gradually it began working.

If she had to watch Jay or he was just with Rick, she was calm and enjoyed herself.

They were great, until now..

As he stood in the half done office, across from the social worker Rick felt his legs begin to give way.

"Please! I'm begging you." Rick pleaded, emotion thick in his voice.

"I'm sorry Mr. Rogers, but we found a relative to Jayden and your adoption papers haven't gone through the system yet." His social worker explained, taking out the papers to show him.

"But..but, I can't just..let him go." he whispered and she gave him a sympathetic smile.

 "I know Rick." She murmured.

"Isn't there anything you can do!?" He asked louder this time and she shook her head. "No, by state law if any relative is found then the child is immediately given to them." She explained and he placed his head in the palms of his hand.

"How long?" he asked, slumping in the chair.

"Mrs. Kingley will be picking him up next week, here so..maybe you should say your goodbyes soon." Kathleen explained with a soft voice.

Rick, still in shock numbly nodded and stood up. "Thanks." He whispered, grabbing his jacket.

Walking out of there he suddenly realized what had happened. His little friend, son even!was being taken.

He shook his head, realizing he was standing in the middle of the sidewalk as people passed him.

"Hey you." A voice he heard many times spoke. "Hey." he responded hoarsely.

He had forgotten Kate had come, but he told her the social worker didn't allow other people in.

Now he was standing in front of her looking like someone took his favorite toy from him.
