It was dark and gloomy when they arrived at the Social Worker's office.
Oddly enough Rick was glad, if it had been sunny he would have wondered why the sky wanted to taunt him.
Kate wrapped her fingers around his shaking wrist and gave him a light squeeze assuring him she wasn't going anywhere.
He took a deep breath, closing his eyes as if he could make it all go away.
Jayden squirmed in his arms causing him to snap out of his daze. Rick placed the boy down and gave him a rub on the head when the boy began walking.
One of the things Jayden had accomplished over the year Rick had cared for him.
Kate stood there proudly and watched the boy stumbled and try to gain his balance.
When he steadied himself he ran towards the flower bush he caught on to. "Rick." She Murmured.
"Kate not now." She nodded and simply hooked an arm around him and lightly feathered a ghost of a kiss to his cheek.
"I love you." Was all she said before she threw her purse over her shoulder and caught up to the 3 year old.
"Kate wook!" Jay squealed, pointing to the bird that had landed on the branch.
Kate smiled and pressed a kiss to the toddler's hair. "I see! It's a very pretty bird."
"Pretty bird." He repeated. Kate smiled and took his hand in her's, guiding him through the double doors of the building.
She cranked her head to the side, searching to see if her Fiance was behind her.
When her eyes landed on him she felt her stomach churn, he was sitting on one of the benches with his head in his hands.
Biting her lip for what felt like the hundredth time in that day she let jayden play with some of the toys the staff kept for the kids.
She made sure he was occupied before walking back outside.
She felt small pellets drop on her skin and realized the weather was finally giving the city some rain. After all San Francisco didn't get much rain.
He felt the body of someone sit next to him but he didn't bother to acknowledge it.
He knew it was her, her perfume gave it away.
"Kate I don't know if I can do it." He confessed, slowly looking up but blinking from the spots that took over from him pressing his face in his hands.
