The great ball slowly crept down the sky, hiding itself under the raven coloured horizon. It set the sky on fire, a deep vibrant orange that faded to a beautiful pink, and then into a dark peaceful purple. In the last rays of light, Kovu sat on the edge of pride rock, His emerald eyes closed. Thoughts rushed about his head, his chest heaving rhythimaclly. His anger surged as he thought of his mother, who had nearly taken his mate's life. Instead, only her own had been wasted. Kiara was in the cave, comforting Vitani, who was grieving Zira. Vitani may have not been Zira's child, but they had been very close, that could not be doubted. Kovu hoped that his 'mother' could see how happy he was now she was gone. Suddely, as a claw scaped slightly across a rock, Kovu snapped his eyes open and span quickly, as Kiara emerged from the cave entrance, flanes burning in her amber eyes. She approached Kovu lovingly, and buried her head into his mane, as he rested his chin on the crown of her head.

"It was my fault, wasn't it?" She whispered, her eyes welling. "I killed her." She had been wracked with guilt since Zira had died. She somehow thought that she could have saved her, and that she hadn't tried hard enough.

"Zira killed herself. And if she hadn't died, well, you woulnt be safe to sit here with me. We would never be able to have cubs in fear that she'd kill them, we wouldn't be able to sleep safely." He assured her. "I would be too scared to love you."

She sniffed, as Kovu put a paw around her. They sat for a while, just watching the sunset, as the last lionesses trickled in to have a well earned rest. The final Lion was Simba, who padded up to Kiara, signalling to her that it was time to go in. Obediantly, she followed her father, and finally, once the last traces of the daytime had gone, Kovu made his was into the main cave.
