"Chris," I call from the kitchen. "Would you mind helping me with reach the birthday cake?"
"Sure!" he responds. "Just wait one second, Love."
I try to get on my tip-toes, but I'm short and not in the condition to stretch upward. Chris is six' three and when I don't wear heels, we appear to be an odd couple. How tall you are doesn't matter in a relationship. It may look strange yet all that truly comes to play is chemistry.
I hear my husband telling me the typical phrase, "Don't overwork yourself."
"All I do is work."
"But you do know how to relax," Chris sneaks a kiss from me. "Go nap, play music, go write, or whatever. I'll deal with whatever else you have to do for today."
I get distracted and remember the thing he was grabbing, "Don't smash the cake. I worked hard making it."
"Again you know how to settle down. Yet you don't, Perry."
"Wow! You haven't called me by that name since our Ghostbuster days," I chuckle.
He laughs too, "I've never forgotten them. Then again I also think Perry is a totally different person."
"Perry? A different person."
"Your alter-ego."
"Alter-ego? How so?"
"Well," my husband smirks. "Perry is who I had a one night stand with. And she was a high matienance woman, intense, and wasn't exactly living the dream. There's your altar ego."
"But then what's Erin like?" I ask.
He replies, "She's kind, confident, hard-working, wife, mother, musician, and writer."
"Read me like a book."
"A book you've written."
I shake my head, "Help me get ready! The party is going to start in an hour"
"As you wish," Chris smirks is infamous facial expression once again. "Give me a list of what you have to do and you just take some time to sit down and not stress."
For a little bit, I would be alone. I smile to myself. My life panned out much differently than expected. Something that was first an accident turned into a miracle. It was the way I found love. And opened up a vault of secrets I had hidden away for most of my life.
I don't have much else to do for the party prep. I just write a note for Chris to put up streamers and string up lights. I decide to take some time to do something for myself. I walk upstairs and down the right corridor to my study. I should actually say that it's the office my husband and I share. I use it for writing. While Chris uses it to house his laptop and to read over movie scripts. I begin to write down old memories. My mind brimming with new ideas. A written memoir about my past, who I was, and who I am. I've always seen my shadow as three people. Who I was, who I am, and who my parents wanted me to be. Even though there's only two individuals in the equation.
Once I went by the name, Perry Edwards, an up and coming screenwriter, notable for the reboot of Ghostbusters, and heavily guarded like a castle with a moat and fortress. She truly was my altar-ego. She was the person my parents always wished I could be and the person I hated being. No I'm not the singer from Fifth Harmony. Or is it Little Mix? I am young enough to know, but I don't care too.
When I met Chris Hemsworth, everything changed. At first I thought for no apparent reason and now I realize for the better.
He helped Erin Andrews return once again. Whoever that really was to begin with and who she is now. I like to believe she is a sweet, music and writing obsessed woman who has an album, intense micro-managing business based parents from the East coast, and everything Perry isn't. Yes, I do share the name with the well-known broadcaster too. But there is no relation and my parents were completely unaware that there was another Erin Andrews somewhere out in the universe.
Some things may seem unclear. Such as what kind of miracle could've started out an accident? And how could this miracle/ accident bring together two people who hardly knew each other? How can I be two people? Who's fourth birthday are we celebrating? To do that, I must take you back to what I like to call 'The Time Before I Was a Hemsworth'.
