A week later
Invisibility never was my strong suit, despite my propensity for introversion. Only when it came to my parents it actually worked because they typically weren't around. Nonetheless, I wasn't ever good at it.
If I saw Chris in the weeks that came after our erotic night, I'd make a big show and hide under a table or something. I got weird looks some days. By the end of it, cast and crew just rolled their eyes and thought I'd lost my mind. In my opinion, I would've rather have them think that instead of know the full truth. The gossip would've spread like wildfire throughout the crew of Ghostbusters. Oh! Oh the jokes that would come from Melissa if she knew. She made crude jokes anyhow, but add Chris, underwear on the chandelier, and me, punch lines were streaming from those three things alone.
As a result of my concerning and quirky behavior on set, Paul had grown completely skeptical of my mental health being in a stable space. He even pestered me about the events prior before Chris and I slept together. I didn't tell him.
Here's an example of a typical conversation regarding this, one that proved to be important to setting the rest of this unexpected narrative in motion:
"Please tell me, Perry," he followed me to the water dispenser.
As I leaned down to fill my water bottle I replied, "It's really nothing, Paul. Don't worry!"
"I worry because you're like a daughter to me and your old man isn't here."
"He's not around anyway. I thank you for caring, but I'm fine. If it was really bothering me still then I'd explain."
Honestly, I wouldn't have if he threatened me. If I told him, he'd run along to my parents and tell them. I didn't need their worry and disappointment due to lack of judgement. Then he added something different to the conversation.
"Alright," he sighed. "I'll stop pestering you."
"Thank you," I repeated and looked him in the eyes. There was brief silence between us and I didn't know how to end of
Fortunately it was Paul. He was about to turn away when he seemed to have recollected something, "Before I go. I just remembered I have a message for you."
"Message?" I asked in shock and my eyes bugged out of their sockets.
"Chris is looking for you."
"Who?"
"Perry! What other Chris would I be talking about?"
"The one in...Animation?" I stated unsurely. "It's very common male name, you know! Check Most Popular Baby Names for the past fifteen years."
"Funny. And you seem to have researched it. Anyway...No!" I had distracted him with my useless knowledge, but mind-fucking my director and truly friend didn't last long "I mean Chris Hemsworth, our male lead. I thought you two don't know each other!"
"Ugh!" I groaned.
"What, Perry?"
"We've met." I answered.
"How?" Paul questioned.
I sighed, "The day he called in sick for laryngitis and I was just exhausted. Technically the night before."
"Just to clarify, he didn't have laryngitis," he stated. "So he'd be able to tell me what happened."
"It has to do with it. He'd preferably not like to talk about it either."
"He seems to want to talk to you, Perry. He knows we're close, he hasn't seen you, and that's why I'm passing on this message."
"What message?" I was beyond confused.
"I'm about to tell you!" Paul was exasperated. "He would like you to meet him at his hotel."
I shrugged my shoulders, "Okay. Thank you. I don't understand why."
"Should I tell him you're coming?"
"No. When did I say I was going?"
"Why?"
"I just don't want to."
"What was so terrible that night?" Paul wouldn't let this go and he could never know.
I groaned loudly in annoyance, "Stop trying to be my dad, Paul! You said you'd stop pestering me about it. Please respect my decision."
"I'm sorry," his eyes and tone went low. "I'll leave you alone. I'll be waiting for you on set in five."
I felt badly about my outburst yet my personal life was none of his business. I wouldn't be going anywhere that blasted hotel soon. Chris and I hadn't been taking. That's the way I wanted it to stay.
