Chapter 9: Wait A Week

Chris turned his face back to me. He stood there. He just stood there! His facial expression was like stone. I can give him some slack now, but with shock of it all, it angered me more. I burned with fury since he was well aware of the dance we performed and the consequences that can come when two people tango distracted.

"Say something! Damn it!" I yelled.

Nothing changed. Chris remained as he was.

"I'm going to be so happy when filming is over because I can't bear to look at you anymore!" I grabbed my jacket and stomped out of the hotel room. Once I got to the elevator. I fell to my knees and cried. "Good night, Hemsworth!"

There was a down pour in the City that night and I had nothing to protect me from it. I swear living there taught me nothing. Anyways, I ran as cautiously as I possibly could. Rain and the streets of Manhattan equal a hazardous mix.

A familiar voice then called behind me, "Wait, Perry!"

I knew it was Chris. This was beginning to feel like a scene from plenty of dramas and romance films. A scene I'm guilty about writing. Either it be one those rainy day love confessions or reassuring me that everything would be fine. It was kind of like that but different.

We stopped in front of an alley way before a set of apartments.

Tears were streaming down my cheeks. You couldn't tell because I was soaked. My clothes clung to me and felt all soggy on my flesh.

"What?" I asked. "Are you going to blame me? Never want to talk to me?! Think this is some damn publicity stunt?"

I began sobbing, he tried to reach out to my facade, and dry my tears, "No! I don't think that for a second!"

I pulled away from him like I did the men the night we met. Though I was well aware, even then, he was nothing like them. I think that's what got me to shout out the question, "Then why are you running after me?"

"This is a complete shock for everyone yet I'm not the type of guy to abandon a girl when she tells me she's pregnant with my kid," Chris answered.

"Shush!" I exclaimed. "People might be able to hear you!"

"This is Manhattan! Who can hear anything?" he questioned.

I nodded, "True."

"So what are you planning on doing about it?"

I replied, "I'm afraid I can't be a mother, so no thank you."

"You're going to get rid of it?"

"What other options do I have?"

Chris answered, "Please can we both take a week to think about it...This is my kid too and I deserve a say in what we do about it."

"We?"

"This is a two way street. Please, Perry, I beg of you...Wait a week...Know that this will be on my mind and no matter what we choose, I will support you ultimately."

   We shook hands, "Okay."

"Can I walk you back to where you're staying?"

"Why do you suddenly care?"

He sighed, "I may not remember the hectic part of that night, however, I do remember saving you from assault...It's good for safety yet I don't know what I'd do if something were to happen to you tonight," he answered and then chuckled, "New York City in the rain isn't the greatest mix I'd heard of."

I nodded, "Considering I lived here for four years, I seemed to have never learned anything."

"Why did you live here?"

"I went to Columbia for my master's."

"Did you spend most of your time on campus?"

"Yes."

"If you didn't go into the city that often then you might have not worried about going alone."

"Plus I was smart enough to have friends with me."

"Sounds valid. Should we get going then?"

"Yes, thank you."

Chris questioned, "Where are you staying?"

"I have a penthouse apartment in the city," I answered.

"Really?"

I smiled, "It's not really mine. It's my parent's."

"Isn't that really expensive?"

"When your parents make millions then nothing is too expensive," I said. "Not that I care about the money thing, but it doesn't hurt."

He nodded, "Right. What do your parents do?"

"They have a huge real estate company in San Diego."

"Interesting. How come you didn't follow in the business or entrepreneur path?"

I shrugged my shoulders, "It just wasn't for me. Also my younger brother will be taking on the family business."

"Is he your only sibling, Perry?"

I shook my head, "No. I have an older sister who I'll admit is a bit obsessed with you."

"Of course!"

"Sorry to shift the subject, but can we call a cab? I'm already having morning sickness and I don't need a cold on top of that."

"Sure."

I whistled loudly and made a big gesture to a cab, "The only thing I learned in New York."

    "I see that."

We got into the cab, I told the driver my penthouse street address, and there was an awkward silence on the way between Chris and me.

I threw my clothes in the dryer and took a nice long bubble bath. It allowed my brain to ponder even more. Wait a week. That seemed fair to me. That seemed like enough time to either sway my decision of getting an abortion or hold firm to that decision.
