Four months later...
"Is Liam seriously up for the task of taking care of Christine?" I asked, sliding one of my blue sparkly drop earrings gently through my ear. It had started coming out when we got to the garage.
Chris shrugged my shoulders, "It's my brother. What the hell could go wrong?"
"Plenty," I raised an eyebrow. I envisioned every single shenanigan I could think of. The bottle warmer would explode with a bottle inside the machine, leading to the kitchen being doused in breast milk. Inevitably, the kitchen would begin smelling putrid for a few days since cleaning spots would be missed in the wildest nooks and crannies. As a result, Christine would be traumatized for life either by loud noises, being burned in the splash zone, or scared of any kind flying object going her direction. With his giant elbows or hands, Liam could accidentally peg her in the face during an innocent game of peek-a-boo or drop her if he threw her up in the air too fast as being seven feet off the ground was a recipe for a fall less fatal than Icarus's. Then of course there were the usual worries about choking hazards and any emotional scarring she provided Liam with the screaming tantrums and physical ones from her strong tugging against large chunks of hair.
Admittedly, I was also on edge by no fault of Liam's. Three weeks ago, I took Christine to the ER as she was having a barking type of cough that was diagnosed to be Croup. Chris was away filming for another week, so dealing with that emergency alone was nerve-wracking in itself, even if the outcome was better than envisioned. Christine was the hospital for a few days. At first, they wanted to quarantine her alone as it was rare for a baby her age to develop Croup and could have dangerous ramifications given the size of her developing lungs and windpipe. Although there was no way to know where she got the infection or why it happened, it added to my caution that I already had as a new mom. However, I vowed not to punish myself since things like these happen. However, try as you might, you can't take the worrying out of a mother as it comes with the job title. Plus, it meant my mom came up for a few days and her support eased Christine's and my transition to being home from the hospital.
"Sure. He won't do anything too risky and plus he knows the rules and routine. Not to mention, Emma will be around for good measure," He tried to reassure me. Chris even reached out a hand and I took it to be met with a loving squeeze, "We haven't had a real date since she was born given my schedule and your recovery. I even booked a hotel room if it's that kind of night."
He made funny faces that might as well have been trademarked with how effortlessly and often he did them. Chris licked his lips, and he thrust his torso and pelvis back and forth. I was amused, though I was rolling my eyes. Despite the cheese factor, I was kind of turned on, but my libido had been through the roof since we waited for the last possible time, we could have sex after Christine was born and he'd only just returned from set. No matter if this man looked like a fool, damn he was still oh so fine and sexy.
I said as he did his moves that meant having sex that night, "Playing it old school. Like the night we got together."
"Hopefully we won't be black out drunk," he joked as the keys jangled in his hands.
I laughed, "At least I can drink for the first time in months. Except I'll be pumping and dumping like nobody's business which will just add to the fun."
"Woo! Drinking!" my boyfriend exclaimed while throwing his fist up in the air. "Finally! We're getting out in the world!"
"You got that right," I opened my door and put my seat belt on. I sighed as a different revelation settled in. I spoke again, staring at the dashboard, "The moment we became parents we became uncool,"
"You know, I'm okay with that since Christine is the best thing that's ever happened."
An hour and a half later...
