Pink or Blue?

Kayleigh runs around the exam room like a maniac.  I'm now 5 months pregnant, and we're about to find out the sex of the baby.  She's obviously very excited to find out, and refuses to calm down at all.

"Do you think the baby is a girl or a boy?" I ask Kay.  She looks back and forth between Justin and I as if that will give her the answer.  When we don't she thinks for herself.

"Boy." She finally answers and crawls onto my lap, not very happy about her decision.  Making decisions at one is a very hard thing to do.

"Do you want a brother?" Justin asks her.

"No." She replies quickly "Want girl."

"Well maybe it is a girl, honey." I say.  She just ignores me and starts to play with my shirt.  Personally, I think it's a boy.

"Hi!" The doctor walks in "How have you been feeling?"

"Good." I reply as I lay down.

"How has your sickness been?" She asks "Any better?"

"Yeah, it's starting to go away.  I still feel sick, but not as bad."

She asks me a few more questions before starting the ultrasound.

"Wow!" Kay sits on Justin's lap staring at the screen "It move!" She tries to jump on the table next to me and I have to block her.  Justin quickly grabs her so she doesn't fall forward.

"Yeah, this baby is moving alot."  The doctor replies laughing "Do you get to feel the baby move?"

"She's too impatient to wait and feel it."  Justin answers for her.  She laughs again and continues.

"Most kids are too impatient.  Would you like to find out the sex today?" She asks.  Justin and I both agree that we want to.  Kay also announces very excitedly that she wants to know too.

"Let me just get a good look.  It's really moving around."  She moves the wand around for a while carefully inspecting the screen in front of her "Looks like baby Theroux is a boy.  Congratulations!"

"You were right, Kay!" I look over at her.  She doesn't seem too happy to know that she was right.  Justin leans over her to kiss me, obviously much happier than she is.

"I'm happy she was right." He smiles "I'm don't have to be out numbered anymore."  I laugh at him knowing that he really doesn't care about this.  We wouldn't care either way.  Just as long as the baby is healthy.

"No boy!" Kay complains.  Justin and I ignore her hoping that she gets over this.  She'll probably change her mind again in the next 5 minutes anyway.  She does that all the time.

"Well, everything looks perfect."  The doctor looks over everything "You and him are both doing great."

We thank her, and shortly after she walks out.  Kayleigh decides that she needs to go see her grandparents to complain to them because the baby isn't a girl.

"Come on, Kayleigh, you can't complain forever."  I practically drag her into my parents house.  She's now mad at us because we won't buy her the chocolate that she thinks she deserves  "You can tell grandma how mean I am.  Maybe she'll buy you candy."

"Chowat!"  She yells sitting on the ground.  I walk around her leaving her there to cry.

"What's wrong with her?"  My dad asks making a face "I don't like this Kayleigh.  She reminds me of your mother."

"She's mad because the baby is a boy."  Justin hands him an extra picture "We just found out and after she told us she thought it's a boy she decided that it had to be a girl because that's what she wants."

"You don't want a baby brother?"  Sherry asks her "You're going to have lots of fun with him!" She picks up Kay and sets her on her lap trying to change her mood "You get to teach him everything you know."

This interests her and she listens to everything else Sherry has to say.  Justin, my dad and I all sit in the kitchen.

"You know, since it's a boy it would be kinda cool if he had a name like his grandpa's." He suggests trying to be sneaky "John is a good name."

"I really like John."  Justin suggests "I'd name him that."

"His name is not going to be John.  That's too many Js in one family.  Kay would be left out."  I defend my decision of the name we already picked out "I guess we can use Bentley John instead of Paul if that's what you really want."

"I think Bentley John sounds much better." He says.

"Okay, then we'll use that instead."  I look over at my dad, who is smirking knowing he got what he wanted "You're lucky.  Just don't piss me off in the next 4 months or I'll be changing it."

"Well you sound like fun right now."  He jokes walking away "Have fun with her, Justin."

I listen in on Sherry and Kay's conversation again.  All is going well until Sherry mentions that Kay might have to share her toys with him and all hell breaks loose.  She must be experiencing something tragic right now.

"No share!"  She yells defensively as she starts to cry again "No baby."

"Honey, you're going to love him."  I walk over to them and hold her "We'll get him some toys too, so you can both share."

"We play?" She asks through her tears.

"Yeah, you two can play." I rub her back to soothe her "He's going to want to play with you, and do all kinds of different things.  You get to help me and daddy out too."

"No help."  She says "Only play."

"Your poor brother isn't going to have anyone to play with if you keep acting like this."  My dad tries to help "You don't want him to be lonely, do you?"

"Yeah,"  Justin adds "You like it when me and mommy play with you, he's going to love it when you play with him."

"Fine."  She agrees "I share."
