Should've Happened Days Ago

"Mommy, why baby not here?" Kay asks sitting next to me on the couch. I was due 3 days ago and we've been telling her and Bentley the baby will be here soon, but nothing happens.

"I don't know, honey." I sigh, trying to get comfortable "I guess it's just having fun in my belly."

"I see her!" Ben climbs up to sit on my lap.  Justin comes over and joins us all.

"We all wanna see the baby, we just need to wait a little."

"Waiting is easy for all of you. You guys don't have a human playing with your insides while you can hardly walk and are never comfortable." I realize after what I said "But it's worth it I guess."

Justin looks from me to the kids and quickly thinks of what to tell them, since I just sounded like a total bitch.

"Mommy's just tired because the baby moves around too much at night."

"Like Ben?" Kay asks comparing the two. I nod my head to answer her.

"Yeah, but Ben didn't move as much as this baby is. This one doesn't stop. I think it's because it wants out to see you."

"Me!!" Ben yells feeling left out. Justin picks him up and starts attacking him with tickles on the floor.  Kay and I sit on the couch watching as they "fight" with each other when the tickling stops.  Ben climbs on Justin's back jumping around and Justin falls to the floor letting him win.

"Mommy play!" Kay tries to pull me on the floor with them.  Justin gets her to stop.

"Mommy can't play right now. It might hurt the baby."

"Baby out?" Ben climbs up next to me.

"I wish, buddy. Hopefully soon." I answer before he jumps off to play with them.

I watch as they play, thinking about how I could be there playing with them.  This baby is taking its time and I'm miserable.  I'm not as bad around the kids, but poor Justin has to deal with me all the time.

"Guy's, don't yell like that." I complain "You're being really loud. They can probably hear you down the street."

"They aren't being very loud, Jen.  Calm down."  Justin defends them "They're fine."

"Well it's giving me a headache.  It won't hurt them to calm down a little." I walk out to the kitchen for a break and the damn cat starts playing with my pants "Kay!  Come get Ice cream!  She wants to play."

Kay runs right out into the kitchen and lays on the floor with the cat.  She throws the cat toys all over the floor making it even more impossible for me to walk.  I manage to get over to the table and end up bumping Ben's bottle causing it to fall on the floor.  Knowing that there's no way I'd make it back up if I get down to pick it up, I ask Kay.

"Honey can you pick up Ben's cup?"  I ask "Mommy can't reach it."

She runs over and picks it up handing it to me "Here mommy!"

"Thanks, baby."  I watch as she runs back over to Ice Cream.  She falls over the toys and lays on the floor laughing at herself.

"I okay!" She yells knowing that's what I'm about to ask her.  I laugh watching her play with everything.  Ben runs out a few minutes later and "plays" with the cat.  We won't let him alone with Ice Cream yet because he doesn't really understand that she isn't a toy, and it worries me a little for the baby.

"Babe."  Justin walks out getting my attention "Look at your children."

I look over to see Kay with her baby stroller out.  She's holding Ice Cream over the stroller while Ben stands next to her laughing.

"Oh my God."  I take a deep breath trying to figure out what to do "Stop them, Justin!  They're gonna piss off the cat."

"I think they already have." He says after Ice Cream hisses loudly and jumps out of Kay's hands "Maybe now she'll listen to us."

"Mommy."  She cries running over to me "She scratch me."

I set her on my lap to calm her down.  Ben runs over to make sure that she's okay.

"Honey this is why we tell you not to play with her like that."  I rub her back to soothe her "You need to start listening to us."

"Kay hurt?"  Ben asks.  Justin picks him up so that he can see better.

"Look,"  He points out her scratch "That's why you can't play with Ice Cream like that.  You're scaring her."

"But she like it."  Kay tries to convince us.  We try our hardest not to laugh, considering that is obviously very made up.

"Just please don't do that anymore, okay?" I practically beg her "If you don't stop then she'll have to go to a new home where the kids aren't bad."

She looks up at me, about to burst into tears when Justin stops her.  He tells her how she can play with her, and then she's perfectly fine again.
