It was March 1st when all the Wammy orphans were summoned to the cafeteria.
"Is everyone here?" Watari asked, the tables in the room had changed. They  were in 3 rows, each table fitting 2 people, about 4 tables in each row. All the tables were full facing towards Watari at the front of the room apart from Near's table -who sat alone- and an empty table at the back.
"Matt and Guess aren't here,"called Mello next to the empty table.
"Could you go and get them for me, Mello?" Watari asked politely.
Mello nodded and made his way upstairs. "Guess? Matt? You guys in there?" ... Nothing. With no response, he pushed the door open. Matt was sprawled across the bed with a DS dangling from his fingertips; fast asleep. Guess had her arms crossed on the desk, head down; also fast asleep. Mello smirked and rolled his eyes before grabbing Matt's shoulder and shaking him awake. "Matt!"
      Matt just groaned.
      "Wake up! Watari wants you!"
"Five more minutes..." Matt mumbled and rolled over, shielding his face from the light.
"You don't have five minutes!" Mello shouted, completely waking up both Matt and Guess as well as the entire neighbourhood, had they been sleeping, whilst losing his temper.
"Okay, okay..." Matt said sitting up and rubbing his eyes. Guess also straightened out,  stretching and yawning.
"Guess, he wants you too." Mello snarled, irritated, before storming from the room.

Guess and Matt eventually arrived in the cafeteria. All eyes turned to them (apart from Near and a still irritated Mello) as the door creaked open, some boys had dirty smirks, other girls looked disgustedly at Guess. She just rolled her eyes and ignored their glares while Matt took no notice, squeezing his eyes shut and yawning.
"Matt, Guess; take a seat." Watari gestured to the empty table at the back as they sat down silently. Roger came in with a huge pile of paper in his arms. "Under the request of L, you are all to have a test to reassess your rankings. The top 5, as last time, will be going to meet L. At the moment, he is involved in a case in Japan, so once the results are back, the top 5 will be leaving to Japan. It is a CATs test, so our computers will be marking them as usual; be careful in which boxes you fill. The whole paper is 100 marks and duration 2 hours. I wish you all the best of luck." Roger began to walk down the aisles of desks, dropping papers onto them.
"I can do this," Guess thought to herself. She knew the top five were Near, Mello, Robin and Lust. What she wanted to do was get into the top 5, join Matt in the rankings. She didn't want to to be left behind.

After the test, all the Wammy's kids left the cafeteria nervous. Hoping to have done well; to meet  L. Apart from Near of course. His unemotional persona almost seemed intimidating, harsh, arrogant most of all. But he kept himself to himself. "How do you think you did?" Hushed whispers throughout the corridor echoed the same sentence and the day seemed to drag on forever.

The following morning, the machine had finished marking the papers. Nervousness had left some, most excited, few confident; Lust being one of the few. At 11, Watari called the Wammy's House orphans back to the cafeteria for the results. As everyone piled into the room it was silent apart from the quiet clatter of chairs, although none of the orphans noticed that, their own thoughts clouding their minds. Anyone who hadn't partaken in the test could hear a pin drop.
Once everyone had sat down, Watari began. "Good morning, children. The tests have been marked and the top 5 decided. There will be a leaderboard up in a moment with your results and rankings compared against all of your peers, but I shall announce the top 5 first to you all. If you are among them, you should be proud, if you aren't, congratulate your peers." He paused. It seemed that he was enjoying making all the children's heart race in suspense. "First; Near." There were no surprised faces, and no reaction from the boy who's name was called. "Second; Mello." Still no surprise. Just an angry aura emitting from the name called that quickly spread throughout the room. "Third, Matt." Here came the snarls and rolling of eyes. No one understood how he managed to remain in third place when all he really did was play video games. "Fourth... Guess." Guess smiled to herself proudly.
Matt leant over and whispered, "Well done!"
"We're going to Japan!" she whispered back.
"And fifth, Robin. Congratulations to all of you, all of you have surpassed my expectations. The five of you should start packing, it's only for a day and night, so don't worry too much about packing excessively. We leave this evening." With a nod of his head, the orphans were dismissed. Most remained in the cafeteria to see where they came on the leaderboard, the top 5 leaving to pack. Once the trio reached Matt and Mello's bedroom, they began to celebrate. Two of them at least.
"Matt, we're going to Japan!" Guess cried excitedly.
"This is too cool..." Matt said in disbelief.
"Humph, hardly." Matt and Guess whipped around to Mello almost in unison.
     "How?!" Guess asked shocked.
"How? Isn't it obvious? Near's coming.
Guess thought for a moment. "I mean I don't really have anything against the kid, but if it will make you enjoy the trip... anyone for a prank?" Mello pulled a devilish smirk.
