Matt, Guess, Robin and Mello stepped off the plane back in England the following day. The wound on Guess's hip appeared to be more of a pointless tattoo than... Well, whatever the hell it was. Upon their return, it wasn't difficult to hear the tapping of feet approaching the door.
Lust was quickly in sight, waiting to greet Matt and Robin. The moment she set her eye on Robin, shock covered her face. "R-Robin! What happened to your eye?"
"Something really insane! Listen up," Robin began, excitement in her voice, "I was talking to Guess, yeah? And I go to look in the mirror. I take off my glasses and then, here's where it gets cool, I take out the contact lens I've been constantly having to wear for the past two years!" Lust looked confused before tuning into her sarcasm. "What I'm trying to say here is," Robin whispered, "Guess actually listened to me, unlike you ever did, so she gave me the courage to be myself. I took out the contact lens that I used to hide this eye from you and she didn't freak. Yes, she was shocked, who wouldn't be? Anyway, you need to find someone else to ventilate all your crap about Matt and whatever else you used to yap on about, okay? Toodles." With that, Robin smiled and went upstairs. Mello, Guess and Matt just stood there watching, Guess holding back a laugh with her hand. Lust blinked a couple of times before looking over to the other three.
"I think that's our cue to leave," Mello whispered to Matt and Matt nodded, taking a hold of Guess's free hand and giving it a slight tug to start heading upstairs. Guess turned to him, then nodded and picked up her suitcase to begin unpacking when she got to her room. Lust watched the two of them with her mouth gaping open as she saw their fingers intertwined with each other. She always thought she had Matt on lock, but for the first time, she realised she was wrong."Hey, Mells?" Matt asked, the two of them were unpacking in their room.
Mello shot him a glare, "Don't call me that."
"Okay, okay," Matt said, chuckling to himself.
"What is it, anyway?"
"I just wanted to say thank you," Matt said simply.
"Thank you for what?"
"Making me overhear that conversation on the plane and stuff. I didn't get the chance to tell you in Japan."
Mello chuckled, "It's nothing, I did it more for myself than for you, it was getting aggravating watching you two being so completely oblivious."
"All that's left it for you to hit it up with Robin, huh?" Matt nudged him as he spoke.
"Ha! Hardly, she seems practically asexual sometimes."
"You never know," Matt said, raising his eyebrows.
"I don't mind being alone, for the time being, just a few more years and we can all just leave this place for good and have normal lives for once."
"What about succeeding L?"
"Wow, that's surprising... I genuinely forgot for a moment... I guess I really do just want to get the hell out of here. But I won't let that sheep beat me. I need to see what his face is like when he finally comes second."
"Just remember I'm with you, okay? Don't forget I got your back, you can count on me," Matt smiled.
Mello chuckled, "And what use would you be, huh, lover boy?" Mello said as he messed up Matt's hair.
"H-hey! I could at least be some sort of distraction!" Matt complained in defence.
"I have no idea where your mind is heading, kid."
"Will you stop treating me like I'm so much younger?!"
"I would if you were taller," Mello teased. Matt rolled his eyes as he tucked his suitcase under his bed. "Do you think... That L will actually die in this case?"
Matt thought for a moment, "I would say no, but when the man himself says so then who's going to know any better?"
"Suppose we wait it out then, huh?" Mello said as he flopped back onto his bed.
"Not much else we can do."
