"I hope Guess is okay..."
"You made the right choice, Matt."
"I said that aloud?" Matt and Mello were in Japan.
"Yeah." Matt looked unsure. "She'll be fine. And can handle herself."
"If I was in her shoes... There would be no way I'd sit back and let it all happen, not try and find her. Do you think she'll do the same?"
"Honestly?" Mello asked. Matt nodded. "Yes. She'll try to track us down. No doubt about it."
"Will she be able to?"
"I'm not sure. Depends on how many clues we left."
"What if... What if we're already dead by the time she finds us?"
"Honestly?" Mello asked again. Matt nodded again. "She'll either find us dead or never find us at all. That's worst case scenario, though; if we survive then we just need to try and find her."
"I'm beginning to regret leaving her."
"If she was here, if we live or die, she'd end up like us."
"She would have wanted it like that. Rather than for her to live and us to die."
"I suppose."
"I would have too if it was her leaving."
"You can't go back on it now. You decided to secure her life. That's the consequence." Matt sighed and looked away nodding. He saw a small store selling cigarettes.
"I think I'm gonna pop in there for some cigarettes," he said pointing at the store.
"Do you smoke?" Mello asked curiously.
"No, not really... Not yet at least..."
"For her?"
"I gue-" He couldn't finish. "I need a new addiction. I'll be back, wait here." And he left Mello alone in the street.
'I'm sorry, Matt,' Mello thought.
