Mello looked out of the window from Guess's room. It was June when the four of them had been playing Magic The Gathering on Guess's bed. The pain from her parent's passing had left her and the four of them had been back to normal for some time now. Mello heard something outside.
"They're playing football... It's been a while, I think I'll join them," Mello turned and began heading to the door.
"Don't kick the ball into anyone's face," Matt warned not looking up from the game he was playing against Guess.
Mello laughed, "I'll try not to but I'm not making any promises. If they get on my nerves they had it coming," he said as he closed the door behind him.
"Wait... I might just live! I'm going to tap 3 Mountains for Balduvian Barbarians... and-" Guess cut Matt off.
"Wait!" Guess glanced at her hand, mana and health dice. She was on three life and would die if Matt activated his ability; he'd tap his Bloodshot Cyclops to sacrifice the Barbarians and deal the Barbarians' combat power to her - three. "Dark Banishing," Guess said as she placed a card in the centre of the field and tapped her remaining 3 Swamps. "Balduvian Barbarians gets destroyed and can't be regenerated!"
"What?! Aw, come on! Well, I might still live." Matt analysed his field as he put his Barbarians into his graveyard, he had one card in his hand. "I guess I'll summon Goblin Glider and attack with Bloodshot Cyclops."
"How much damage?" Guess asked.
"Four," Matt replied smiling, Guess only had one creature on the field and it was only a 2/2 compared to Matt's 4/4.
"In that case, I defend with Deathgazer, Bloodshot Cyclops dies as well as Deathgazer." Guess pushed her card forward before putting it in her graveyard.
"No, he's only a 2/2, Bloodshot Cyclops is a 4/4," Matt argued, confused.
"Yeah but Deathgazer has an ability - 'Whenever Deathgazer blocks or becomes blocked by a nonblack creature, destroy that creature at end of combat'," Guess read.
"Well..." Matt said as the put his creature into his graveyard again, "Shit."
"Mine?"
"Yup, just don't draw a damaging Sorcery, okay?" Matt asked hopefully.
"I'm not promising anything!" Guess giggled. She untapped her lands and took a small breath before drawing a card. She stared at it for a moment before bursting out laughing.
"Oh, God. Don't tell me you got Soul Feast again!" Matt remembered their previous game and how he lost to that exact card. It dealt 4 damage to a player and healed the user for 4, Matt was on 2 health this game and last game.
"Nope," Guess said as she began to tap some of her Swamps, "but it sure is close enough! Diabolic Tutor, I search my library for a card and add it to my hand!" She picked up what remained of her deck and began searching for the card she needed.
"Oh, for fuck sake!" Matt laughed.
"And Soul Feast! RIP!" Guess laughed as she placed the card down from her deck.
"GG," Matt chuckled as he extended his hand; Guess shook it.
"Robin, want a game?" Guess asked as she packed away her cards.
Robin smiled, "No, I'm alright, I actually wanted to ask you something while Mello isn't here..." She paused as she looked at Matt, then she sighed. "I suppose you would find out anyway... I, um, think I have a crush on Mello..." Robin looked down, blushing.
Guess smiled with one corner of her lips, "So you want to tell him then?"
"Uh, yeah... It's just that I have no idea how or when."
Guess thought for a moment. "Matt, didn't you have something to show me on your laptop?"
Matt nodded, "But you saw earlier, didn't you?"
"Yeah, but does Mello know that?"
"I don't think so."
"Great! Okay," Guess clapped her hands together, "When Mello gets back, Matt; you tell me that you wanted to show me that thing on your laptop and that will leave Robin and Mello alone here!"
"W-wait! Now? Today? I- I don't know..." Robin stuttered, looking back down at her lap.
"Aw, come on, Robin! You know that if you think about things too much then you start rambling, it's better if you go in there with your heart as opposed to your head. That's what I did-" she glanced over at Matt and trailed off, a light blush forming on her cheeks. Matt smirked in response.
Robin saw their little exchange and smiled, "Okay... Fine," she sighed.
"Alright! I want a rematch!" Matt cried determinedly.
"You're on!" Guess drew four cards in one quick swipe of her deck and three with the other hand.Matt and Guess played another game and Mello came back with a chocolate bar as the game was about to finish.
"Hey, Matt, guess what?" Guess teased.
"You're kidding, right? Please tell me you're joking," Matt pleaded hopefully. He had more than enough creatures on the field to kill Guess next turn but they were all rested. Guess had one creature she could attack with that was a 2/2 but she also had one card in her hand. He was on five health.
"I activate Soul Feast! Minus four life points to you, plus four to me!" she laughed, rotating the D20 to 6,"and I attack with Spineless Thug!"
Matt scratched the back of his neck. "What the hell? How do you get that every game?! I call stacking!" he complained jokingly as he packed away his cards.
"I'll admit the first two times were just luck, but that time, I saved that from the very beginning! I recommend you put some more cancellation spells in there, maybe splash black." Guess suggested.
"Yeah, I suppose you're right."
"That gives Guess a three-win streak, doesn't it?" Mello commented, glancing over Matt's shoulder.
Matt sighed, "Yeah... Wait, you didn't watch the end of last game!"
"One could assume," Mello teased, messing up Matt's hair as he took a bite of his chocolate. Guess and Robin laughed.
"Hey, Matt, didn't you have something to show me?" Guess asked subtly, glaring at him for a split second.
"Oh, right! I'll show you now, laptop's in my room."
"Okay, we'll be back!" Guess chirped as she jumped up and pulled Matt out of the room by the hand, closing the door behind her. "I knew you'd forget," Guess teased once they got to his room.
"And I knew you'd remember for me!" Matt smiled cheekily. "So, now what?"
Guess walked closer to him, blush dusting her cheeks, "I was thinking that this plan would also benefit us as we don't really get that much time alone together... I just thought..." Guess trailed off looking down at the floor.
Matt smirked and tilted his head, taking a hold of her hand and pulling her closer to him, resting his other hand on her waist. She looked up at him and he took his opportunity to kiss her. Guess giggled into the kiss and wrapped her arms around his neck.
