Three

*~*~*~*

The next evening Clary had still yet to wake up from the demon attack, still laying out cold in a bed in the infirmary. That being where I currently sat as well. I had myself seated in a chair in the corner of the room, reading a book I had managed to swipe from Alec's room while he had beem busy elsewhere in the building, likely talking to Jace or Isabelle about me and my sudden return.

"Ow." I tore my gaze away from the book at the sound to be greeted by the sight of Clary sitting upright in the bed while Isabelle stood to the side-- both of them cradling their heads in their hands.

"Wait, I don't know who you..." Clary trailed off as she eyed Isabelle wearily, clearly remembering her mother's warning about not trusting anyone.

"I'm Isabelle." My sister introduced herself as she looked Clary over. "I've never seen Jace so curious about a mundane... or distracted. Like you saw earlier, distractions are dangerous in our line of work."

"She's not a mundane, Isabelle." I spoke up, causing Clary to look at me. At seeing me there with her there was a small sense of relief in her eyes before she looked back at Isabelle.

"I have no idea what you're talking about," Clary shook her head. "Who's Jace?"

"You really don't know much, do you?" Isabelle hummed, almost as though she were talking to herself. "And here I thought Cecile was just exaggerating."

"Yes, because, out of all of us, I'm the one that tends to be dramatic." I scoffed.

"All I know is some psychos took my mother, and now you people have taken me and Cici." Clary said as Jace and Alec joined us.

"And by "taken" I assume you mean "saved your life"?" Jace corrected her as Isabelle looked over at me, seeming to be going over what Clary had said.

"You go by Cici with the mundanes?" She raised a dark brow at me.

"Tends to blend in more than Cecile," I shrugged.

"A mundane shouldn't even be here." Alec shook his head.

"Where is "here" exactly?" Clary asked.

"She's not a mundane, Alec." Jace said, ignoring Clary's question.

"How do you know that?" Alec asked.

"Because the seraph blade lit up when she touched it." Jace recalled what had happened at the club.

"I can also atest to the fact that she's not a mundane." I raised my hand, though I doubted that anything I had to say would provide my twin with much reassurance.

"Look, Isabelle, can you..." Jace motioned for Izzy to move from her perch on the bed. My sister moved without saying a word, walking over to sit on the arm of my chair, letting Jace have her seat next to Clary on the bed. "I'm Jace Wayland."

"I'm, uh," Clary began.

"Clary Fray, we know who you are." Jace assured her.

"Am I the only one who finds this unusual?" Alec asked.

"You find everything unusual, Alec." Jace pointed out, making me laugh.

"I have to report this to the Clave." Alec shook his head.

"You know what? Dial it down a notch." Jace suggested.

"My brother doesn't have a dial." Isabelle shot Clary a small grin. "I love you, Alec, but you have a switch that's always on."
