It wasn't long after we had left the rave that we all found ourselves in what appeared to just be a warehouse-- but I knew better. I had learned a lot from Dot over the last couple of years. I could practically feel the hum of the magic in the air. Practically feel the veil being pulled over all of our eyes by the warlock glamour, it tricking us into seeing an old abandoned warehouse instead of Magnus' lair.
"Magnus' lair is right behind that fence." Jace nodded at the fence on the other side of the room we were in.
"Magnus lives in a warehouse?" Clary frowned as she glanced around the place.
"Not exactly," I shook my head. "Warlock glamour."
"Something's wrong," Isabelle frowned. "It's far too easy to get this close."
"His protective wards must be down," Jace guessed.
"You," Alec turned his attention to Clary. "Don't get in the way."
"Nice," I scoffed as the sound of grunting reached our ears. We all looked up towards the fence to see two men fighting each other, but it was clear one had the upper hand.
"Oh, my God! Valentine found Magnus!" Clary's exclaimed as we hurried towards the fence, seeing Valentine's man stabbing the warlock he had with him. The strike seemed to kill him instantly before his body was thrown down to the ground in front of us, the other man running back into Magnus's lair. We split up throughout the warehouse, but I made sure to stick close to Clary. She and I hid behind a shelf together as we spotted a young girl, a warlock, rush out to the dead man's side, falling down next to him.
"Daddy! Daddy?" She shook him. "Daddy, get up, please!"
"Watch out!" Clary yelled as she ran out from behind the shelves when she saw one of Valentine's men sneaking up behind the girl. She kicked him as the little girl hurried away.
"Come here, sweetheart." I pulled the girl into my arms as Isabelle jumped in to help Clary with the Circle member.
"Clary Fairchild. Valentine will be so pleased to meet you." The man was able to say before Isabelle, Jace, and Clary killed him-- the girl hiding her face in my dress the whole time.
"Where's Alec?" I asked Isabelle as I continued to hold the girl close to me, not seeing our brother anywhere.
"He headed into the lair, see if there were others," she told me.
"Sweetheart, go to my friend." Despite the hesitance of leaving the girl's side, I gently handed her off to Clary before I hurried into Magnus' lair. I kept my eyes peeled at I wandered about the space in search of my twin. My hand kept a firm grip around the handle of my dagger as I went, ready for any potential attacker.
I didn't see Alec anywhere inside, telling me that he was likely sweeping the different rooms. I headed down the hall to my left, hearing voices coming from that direction that only grew louder the closer I came to the room at the end of the hall.
"You're magic's strong, warlock," a man's voice carried out. "Much stronger than that horned weakling I killed this morning."
"Elias?" I recognized Magnus' voice, he seemed surprised at the news.
"That was his name," the unknown man-- a Circle member-- laughed. "Well, lucky for us, he sold you out before I took his warlock mark. Cat's eyes. Be a nice addition to my collection."
