Six
*~*~*~*
I ignored the stinging pain in my hand as I slammed it against the punching bag in front of me, repeatedly. I tried to push everything out of my head and just focus on the bag. While Simon and Clary were getting their rest after everything at Hotel DuMort, I couldn't bring myself to sleep. It was as though my mind were racing, unable to slow down enough to let me get even a little bit of shut eye. It was for that reason that I stood in a sports bra and leggings in one of the training rooms, taking my frustration out on the punching bag.
"Question." I stopped at the sound of Isabelle's voice, turning around to find her standing in the doorway watching me. "Is the bag supposed to be Valentine, Camille, or Alec?"
"What do you want, Isabelle?" I ignored her question with one of my own.
"Your little mundane friend is leaving." She informed me. I could feel my eyes widen as I hurried past her to try and find Simon, not wanting him to leave yet, not when he'd just been trapped with vampires.
"Simon, what are you doing?" Clary asked Simon when I found the two of them heading towards the door, Clary seeming to be doing what I had come to do, convince Simon to stay.
"I already told Isabelle, they can't keep my prisoner here." Simon shook his head.
"Simon, you're not a prisoner," I tried to assure him.
"Where are you going?" Clary asked.
"I'm going home, Clary." He stopped to look back at us. "And if you guys haven't already completely drunk their Kool-Aid, then you're coming with me."
"You know I can't," Clary frowned at him.
"I'm not leaving Clary here by herself," I backed her up. While I loved the idea of getting out of here, I wasn't going to leave Clary here alone, even if Jace, Isabelle, and Alec were here to help her. I had made a promise to Jocelyn and I was planning to keep it.
"Yes, you can, it's..." Simon glanced around us before he lowered his voice, not wanting to be overheard. "It's not safe here."
"In fact, this is the safest place she could possibly be." Jace disagreed as he came up behind us.
"You don't get to talk to me, Captain America." Simon shook his head.
"Considering I'm the guy with the weapons, I get to say what I want." Jace narrowed his eyes at him.
"Okay, come at me, bro!" Simon dared him.
"Oh, yeah?" Jace smirked, clearly liking the idea of being able to fight the nerdy-looking boy.
"Yeah." Simon nodded as he started to walk towards Jace, but Clary and I quickly jumped between them.
"Hey, what is your problem?" Clary demanded from our friend.
"He's my problem!" Simon pointed at Jace before he lowered his voice. "He's just like Kirk Duplesse from high school. Do you guys remember him? Total jerk with the square jaw. Smelled like body spray, always bullying people. Why don't you do your own homework? Just once, yeah?"
"Simon," I frowned at him.
"I can take care of myself." He told us before he walked past us, out the door.
"I'm not saving his ass a second time," Jace told Clary and I both.
"Really, Jace?" Clary glared at him before she ran after Simon, not letting him just get away this easy.
