"What happened?" Magnus asked as he led the way into his lair, Simon and I helping Luke along while Clary walked ahead of us, constantly glancing back at the groaning werewolf.
"He was attacked!" Simon pointed out the obvious.
"He needs a warlock." Clary said as Simon and I helped Luke over to the couch. "He needs you."
"Put him here." Magnus instructed us as he covered his couch with a sheet, a feign attempt to protect his furniture from the blood. Simon and I listened to him, laying Luke down as carefully as we could.
"Where are you?" Luke muttered.
"Luke," Clary knelt down in front of him.
"I can't find you." Luke said, not making any sense. "Where are... where are you? Where are you? Jocelyn! Jocelyn..."
"No, Luke, it's Clary." Clary took his hand in hers. "Can you hear me?"
"Clary, listen to me." Luke's eyes trained on her as he struggled against the hallucinations that were likely eating away at his mind. "Listen... You have to listen to me. I have to tell you, just in case..."
"No, don't ever say it, don't." Clary shook her head frantically, not wanting to think about the man in front of us dying, the man that had been like a father to her her whole life.
"No, listen to me." Luke insisted.
"Luke." I frowned at him, not liking how he was talking like he was about to die any minute, even if that was a possibility.
"No, you need to know!" Luke ignored me. "Listen..."
"Was he bitten by an alpha?" Magnus asked us.
"Yeah, why?" Simon asked.
"Three, two, one." Magnus counted down. When he finished, as if on cue, Luke's eyes snapped wide open to reveal the shining green orbs as he let out a loud growl.
"Oh, my God." Clary jumped back, her eyes wide.
"Where do you think you're going?" Simon's eyes followed Magnus as the warlock hurried away from the couch.
"Hold him down. We don't have a lot of time." Magnus instructed us as he returned from the other room, placing what looked like a piece of tree bark in Luke's mouth, as though to keep him from biting off his own tongue. "It'll take a few moments to take effect."
"What's happening to him?" Clary asked.
"Random werewolf transformation," Magnus offered as explanation. "It's a side effect of the poison in the alpha bite."
"Come on, Luke." I whispered as I wrapped both my hands around one of his, ignoring the pain that came with his clenching his hands into fists every now and then.

"You okay?" Simon's question made me look up, seeing that Simon's attention was focused solely on Clary as she sat beside me, both of us keeping our eyes on Luke's sleeping figure. I rubbed my thumb over the back of his hand as I continued to hold it between my own. I looked his sleeping figure over, his wounds having been cleaned and bandaged since he was put to sleep by Magnus. "Hey... it's me. I know how much he means to both of you."
"How could we have doubted him?" Clary shook her head. "Simon, he's... He's the only father I've ever known. I can't lose him."
"We're not going to lose him, Clary." I promised her.
