"Don't they look cozy." Isabelle smirked at me as she and I watched Jace and Clary as they talked, the Cup in Clary's hands.
"What's the second rule?" We heard Clary ask Jace, looking at him as though he were the only thing she could see. Before Jace could answer the question Isabelle used her whip to snatch the Cup from Clary's hands, bringing it back to hold herself.
"There's nothing a Shadowhunter can't do in heels." Isabelle answered Clary's question herself as we walked over to the red head, letting her take the Cup back.
"Alec, what are you doing?" Jace asked as he walked over to where my brother was carefully watching a monitor, searching for any demons nearby. "You can stare at this monitor all you want, they need angel blood to get past the wards. You know that. No Downworlder can come into the Institute."
"No without an invite by a Shadowhunter." Isabelle agreed as we watched Clary put the Cup back into the tarot card.
"Last I checked, Valentine is a Shadowhunter." I pointed out.
"The Cup is not safe here." Alec glanced around at all of us. "We have to give it back to the Clave."
"Give it back to the Clave? No." Clary shook her head. "Not after everything we went through to get it."
"I'm with Clary on this one." I voiced my opinion, only earning a glare from Alec.
"Our brother is right." Isabelle shook her head, backing Alec up. "The Cup is extremely important."
"Are you agreeing with me?" Alec looked at Isabelle, surprise painting his face. I didn't blame him. In the past it had always been Alec and I agreeing on important decisions, leaving Isabelle and Jace to try and convince us to break the rules. Tables had certainly turned.
"I'm full of surprises." She smirked at him.
"This Cup is the one chance I have at getting my mom back." Clary reminded all of us.
"I agree with Clary and Cecile." Jace said. "We can't give the Cup to the Clave, not now. We need it. It's our only bargaining chip."
"Look, I know how powerful this Cup is." Clary glanced between both of my siblings, trying to get through to them, mainly Alec. "It has the power to create new Shadowhunters, control demons, and even kill a mundane if they drank from it. But I promise you, I will not let that monster get his hands on it."
"There you go." Jace looked at Alec. "You have her word."
"Follow me." Alec sighed, leading the way down the hall and up a small flight of stairs. I followed him and Clary, and watched as he knelt down and used his stele on a rune on the floor, opening a safe of sorts. He took the tarot card from Clary and placed it on the bottom shelf before he closed the safe once more, locking the Cup safely away.
"Alec, I realize I couldn't have done any of this without your help." Clary told him. "I wanna thank you."
"Don't misread this as friendship." He shook his head, glancing at me for a second before he focused his attention back on Clary. "Since you've arrived, our whole world's been turned upside down."
"And that's my brother." I sighed as Clary and I watched him walk away, heading off to rejoin the others.
"Are you okay?" She asked me.
"Yeah," I nodded. "I just really wish we'd listened to your mom, stayed home on your birthday."
"Me too." She agreed as we headed back towards the main room, finding Jace still there, looking over one of the monitors himself. I walked away from Clary as she pulled out her phone, likely to try and return Simon's call from earlier.
