Nine

*~*~*~*

After Clary and Simon had been dragged off in the car, Alec and I hurried back into the loft for any sign of who could've taken them. I stood by the door of Clary's room, watching as Alec threw things around in frustration. My lips were pressed into a thin line as I watched my twin's every move. I didn't have the slightest clue as to how to ease his anger in that moment, only able to watch as he took it out on anything within reach.

"Breaking things isn't going to make you feel any better," I commented after a few minutes.

"Shut up." He glared at me as Jace and Isabelle finally joined us, taking a second to look around the destroyed room.

"Where is she? Where's Clary?" Jace's eyes darted between us.

"She's gone." Alec spoke bluntly, not bothering to beat around the bush.

"What do you mean, gone?" Isabelle frowned.

"She and Simon got arrested while we were securing the fire escape." I said, having been able to piece together that it'd been Luke's partner, Alaric, that had snatched Clary and Simon.

"I got distracted." Alec added, stuttering slightly.

"The mundane was here?" Jace's eyes narrowed slightly, clearing not liking the news of Simon being back in the picture.

"Simon?" Isabelle looked to me and I nodded. "He's gone too?"

"It was an unmarked car," Alec told them. "I don't know where they took her."

"What did you do, Alec?" Jace shook his head before he hurried out of the room, his anger clear as day. Isabelle glanced between Alec and I before she grabbed Clary's bag off the bed and followed after short-tempered blonde. Alec and I were right behind the two, my own box in my hands once more.

"Damn it." Jace swore as we all stood around in the alley we had met Simon in less than an hour ago. Jace was trying to use some papers he'd found in Clary's room to track here, but it wasn't working. "She's not showing up. We need to parabatai track."

"Their attitudes aren't going to help us." I whispered to Isabelle as we watched Alec walk over to Jace, helping him try and track Clary. Isabelle only gave a small hum of agreement as we watched the boys struggle to work together.

"Alec, concentrate." Jace hissed at my brother. "Alec!"

"I'm doing it. She's not showing up." Alec insisted as Isabelle's phone went off.

"Just like I thought. She wasn't arrested," Isabelle informed all of us.

"It was your job to look after her." Jace glared at the dark haired boy.

"I did my best, Jace." Alec promised him.

"Then maybe your mother was right, and your best just isn't good enough." Jace spat, throwing our mother's words back in Alec's face.

"Jace!" Isabelle and I both shot the blonde a warning look.

"Are you so blinded by your feelings for Clary, you've lost sight of us?" Alec narrowed his eyes at Jace. "Clary and Cecile snuck out. I went after them, to protect her. I did nothing you haven't done a thousand times before."

"Yes, you did." Jace shook his head. "You lost her."

"Enough, both of you." Isabelle stepped between them while I stayed back, my own nerves and patience starting to wear thin.
