Chapter Thirty:

"You haven't touched any of your breakfast," Suzanna said when she noticed that Nola hadn't even bothered to pick up any silverware, let alone eat anything.

Suzanna knew that Nola was upset that Parker hadn't come back last night or this morning. It pained Suzanna to know that her niece, after everything, was being heartbroken by Parker walking out without a word and not coming back.

"Sorry," Nola mumbled as she snapped out of thought. She glanced down at her plate, which was load with food that her aunt had prepared. While Nola felt like she could eat, just the sight and smell of the food made her feel as if she was going to be sick. "I'm ju-just not that hungry, I guess."

"You should be starving seeing as you didn't eat dinner last night."

Nola didn't say anything because she was afraid of angering her aunt.

Suzanna noticed that Nola wasn't going to say anything so she dropped the topic, for another one. "Your parents called me late last night. They said there's an issue with booking a flight back home. They're still on their way back but won't be here until the wee hours of the morning tomorrow."

Nola nodded knowing her parents would take their time on their way back. Nothing was too important to come home, not even her. "Did-d they say when they'd be going back abroad?"

Suzanna shook her head, "No, they didn't say."

Nola suspected that her parents wouldn't stay long. "I should go," Nola stood up from the breakfast room table and grabbed her book bag from the floor, beside her chair.

"School doesn't start for another thirty minutes," Her aunt commented as she quickly looked at the clock on the wall.

"I'll do some work in th-the library. I have a lot to catch up on." Nola walked out of the room, heading towards the front door.

"Wait!" Suzanna stood up and rushed into the living room, right after Nola. "I went to Walmart last night and got you a prepaid phone." Suzanna went over to her purse, which was on the couch. "It's loaded with a bunch load of minutes, so you can use it if you need to get ahold of someone. Your parents said they'll get you a better phone when they come home." It didn't take much searching through her bag for Suzanna to find the phone. She handed it to Nola and smiled, "I programmed my number in it. Call me if you need me, I'll be here."

"You're staying here?"

"Yes, for the time being I have taken off work. I figured I'd stay here, spend time with you and my sister - whenever she gets back." Suzanna gave her niece a small teasing grin.

Nola knew that her aunt staying had more reasoning behind it than she was letting on. But, Nola didn't push the conversation any further.

Taking the phone, Nola told her aunt thank you before walking out the house.
