Chapter Sixty:

"See, I told you that your constant smoking would catch up to you," Nurse Heather stated as she walked in the room and noticed Parker all jittery in his seat. She could tell that his jitters weren't just because Nola could wake up any moment but because, also, he had not had a cigarette in all day.

"I thought it was supposed to take a few hours for her to wake up. It's been almost twenty-four hours."

Nurse Heather, who had just reached Nola's heart monitor, glanced over at Parker. "Patience, she is showing signs of coming out of her comatose state. Dr. Pushner is convinced that we have the answer, it just appears that Nola was given larger doses of the toxin, which she was poisoned with, then we originally thought."

After a moment passed, Nurse Heather felt a wave a guiltiness wash over her, "They told me that the people that have been poisoning her have been coming up here, regularly, to pump Nola up with more drugs . . . I should have seen it — I should have noticed. . ."

Parker shook his head, "Don't blame yourself, Mrs. Heather. They were wicked people and they weaseled their way in here, when people weren't looking, to keep her in a coma."

"But, I was looking. I always keep an eye on my patient's rooms to make sure nothing goes awry. I knew that woman was coming in here - along with others."

"Others?" Parker's ears perked up.

"Yes," Nurse Heather went to explain, going into detail about the two other women that would sneak in when Parker had gone to take a smoke break.

Parker could picture the two girls Nurse Heather was describing. One was clearly Camille, while the other was Hannah. Parker shook his head, baffled that Camille had sneaked her way in and continuously posioned Nola — practically right under his nose.

As for Hannah, Parker did not see her as a threat or a problem in the equation of Nola's situation. She was an innocent person who came up here to make sure Nola had fresh flowers by her side — and even a decorated room after prom. If anything, Hannah was a friend that just didn't want to get in the way.

Parker was glad that Nola had Hannah, she needed a friend — whether Nola knew Hannah was friend yet or not.

"Mr. Harper, the detective that was here earlier got my statement about the other two women. He said he will take care of it," Said Nurse Heather as she wrote down Nola's vitals.

Parker nodded, glad that Douglas had extra evidence against his daughter.

"There are a lot of people in the waiting room," announced Nurse Heather once she was done.

"Yeah, some of my friends, Nola's friends and family have come up here. Waiting, just like I am," Parker said as he gazed over at Nola. He began to wish nothing more than for her to open her eyes and showcase the big emerald green eyes that he had come to love.

"Shouldn't be long." Walking over the wall by the door, Nurse Heather put her hand under the hand sanitizer dispenser. Once it released some hand sanitizer on her palms, she rubbed it in. "Well, I will be back in an hour. If she wakes up or you need me sooner, just press the nurse's button."
