Chapter Forty-One:
The car whipped past behind Parker as he stood there, safely, a few inches from the highway. He placed his hand over his heart, pouting, "You wound me, Nola. I could have died."
Without warning, Nola stalked over to him. "Are you serious?!" Nola yelled at the top of her lungs, with her face reddened by anger that consumed her. She was furious that Parker was stupid enough to risk his life all because she wouldn't tell him what was bothering her. "You're an ass to even joke about killing yourself."
Parker's eyes went wide, he had not expected her to flip out. Holding his hands up in a surrendering position, he went to apologize, "Nola-"
"No! You can't try and guilt me into telling you what I am going through!-"
Parker cut her off, "Hey, I was only going-"
Nola didn't hear him, she was so wrapped up in her anger that she continued, "If I wanted to tell you how I feel, I would!"
Parker paused and just watched Nola have a breakdown.
"And, if you wanna kill yourself," Nola shoved his chest, pushing him to towards the highway. "Then just do it! Go!"
Parker didn't move an inch as Nola attempted to hit and push him. He stayed still with remorse, realizing he had pushed her to breakdown, in one of the worst possible ways.
Little did he know that Nola's anger towards Parker was colliding with her the frustration with the Camille and Mitch situation, making it tenfold. And, all bundled together with the emotions she had been going through prior, Nola snapped.
After a good minute, she stopped, finally calming down and coming to her sense. As soon as she did, Nola immediately regretted her outburst. She began to remember the times that she would try to fight back against Mitch. She would snap, but he was always quick to put her back in place when she did slip.
Nola moved hastily, out of reflex, to the other side of the car - leaving the hood in between her and Parker. She was in a state of panic for a few seconds, waiting for him to retaliate. When he made no move, she breathed and reminded herself for the millionth time that Parker was not like Mitch, he wouldn't hurt her. Yet, it was still her instinct reaction to create distance.
Silence enveloped them and, slowly, Nola began to shake out of anxiety. She could not believe she had exploded on Parker and even tried to push him into the highway. After all, he had done for her she knew he was just trying to help. Gradually, she convinced herself that she was in the wrong and deserved for Parker to be furious at her.
Unable to handle the guilt and silence, Nola scurried back into the car.
Once settled, she took a large inhale before she broke down and began to cry uncontrollably. Her whole body shook and she could feel herself grow nauseous because of how worked up she was getting. But, she managed to stop herself from becoming sick as she continued to cry. She wept so hard, in fact, that she didn't even notice when Parker got into the car.
Parker saw how torn up Nola was and he considered that there might not be a damn thing he could do this time to help her. He mainly thought this way because, he figured, he was the cause of her meltdown.
