Chapter Thirty-Seven:
Nola's opened her eyes to find herself staring at her alarm clock. The time read one in the morning. She wondered how she ended back home and into her bed. The last thing she remembered was playing Ring of Fire and then her memory went blank.
Sitting up, she noticed that she was still dressed in the clothes she had on at Claudine's, minus her shoes.
Swinging her legs over the side of her bed, Nola felt as if she could drink a gallon of water and still not be satisfied. When she got up to get something to drink, Nola noticed that she was still intoxicated. With a groan, she stood up straight and tried to listen for any indication that her aunt was still awake. If Suzanna was, Nola figured she would just force herself to go back to sleep, because she would rather die of thirst than face her aunt in her state.
After a minute, Nola knew her aunt must be asleep because the house was dead silent. So, without hesitating anymore, she attempted to go to the kitchen as quietly as possible.
When she got back to her room, Nola felt slightly soberer than she was when she woke up but she still was feeling almost as if she was tipsy. Walking over to her bed, she placed her - now - half-empty water glass on the nightstand and sat down on her bed.
She sat there, wondering what she should do since she wasn't all that sleepy anymore. Reaching over to her nightstand, Nola grabbed her phone that was plugged up and charging. Looking at it, she saw that Parker had sent her a text.
Parker:
Drink ice cold water in the morning and take two aspirin. You'll feel better afterward, trust me.
Hope you had fun tonight.
Nola was trying to figure out how to reply to him when she accidently hit the call button and not text. It took her a second to realize what she had done and she tried to hang up but Parker answered before she got a chance.
"Hello? ... Nola?"
Nola placed the phone to her ear as a sense of obligation to respond hit her. "Hey," on the inside Nola started to think about how stupid she felt. "I didn't mean to call you," Blurted Nola.
"Oh ... okay. I'll talk to you tomorrow. Goodnight."
"Wait!" The word slipped from her mouth before she could think. Nola blinked, wondering if she had been too late and Parker had hung up already.
"Yeah?"
She sighed in relief that she caught him. "Are you busy?" Nola felt an urge to continue talking to him but she wanted to make sure that he hadn't been doing something before she called and she was interrupting him.
"No, I was just watching Adult Swim," Parker answered her as he muted the television. A smile played on his lips because he could tell that Nola wanted to talk to him. Just knowing that not only boosted his ego but, also, made his night.
"What's Adult Swim about?" Nola inquired as she laid down, in her bed, and waited for Parker to reply.
Parker's smile got slightly bigger. "You sure have been loose with your questions lately."
